School cafeteria food you enjoyed?

Up here in Canada, the free breakfast or free lunch in the public school system is typically only available to grade school aged kids who meet some sort of poverty criteria, in less affluent parts of town. I think the Boys and Girls Club (a charity that runs activities for kids and offers tutoring) may help.

I think some high schools have breakfast and lunch made available for some impoverished students.

The public high schools have cafeterias where kids can buy lunch if they have money for it, and the prices are subsidized by the school. I remember burgers were $1.25 when I was in 9th Grade in the late 80s. Most kids brought lunches from home. At my school, it was the more affluent kids who had allowance to pay for cafeteria lunches more frequently.

Since poverty has gone up since I was in high school, it’s possible high schools are now providing some kids with breakfast or lunch.

No, Lakeview elementary, South Milwaukee, WI. Plenty of kids in an industrial suburb. None of our school had a cafeteria. Our Junior High had none. High school had a kitchen, but you had to pay for items like the rectangle grease puddle pizza. I should say we had a cafeteria, just no kitchens, in general. We all brought our own grub. Some in the much lauded Dukes of Hazzard lunch box. I just had brown bags.

I just remembered that my first exposure to Funyuns, various Drake’s and Hostess products, and Tater Tots was in my HS cafeteria.
