Looks good! I’ve admittedly only ever had their sandwiches or donuts (which are now going weirdly viral apparently) - but understand this location is owned and run by the original owner of Burgers Priest before it he sold it to the Swiss Chalet group. Was surprised he went back into the restaurant industry but must know his stuff!
Can absolutely vouch for their hero sandwich if you’re into overstuffed, fresh sandwiches. They fresh bake the bread which I believe is a variation or different shape of the pizza dough (my partner with a more refined palette guesses at least) - and it’s loaded with cold cuts, cheese, veggies, etc.
In the summer, I prefer that sandwich and walking to Trinity Bellwoods with a blanket for a picnic lunch over the trendier Lambos or Vildas closer to the park.
They sound fantastic! Descendant is a bit far east for me, but Renaissance is a close alternative for those in the west end. I see @Phoenikia mentioned it above but I’ve gone and can vouch - will post a pic next time.
I’m upset I didn’t try Afro’s before the TikTok influencer went there yesterday or the day before - left a $3000 tip. The influencer has ~20M followers across his social media, and it’s early to say for Toronto, but places he’s visited in the US have had lineups following his recommendation for months.
Tried Detroit pizzeria today. Beef pepperoni version. Very doughy and oily. Funny enough it reminded me of deep dish pizza Hut in the subcontinent. If you enjoy that sort of thing go for it
In Durham, the must-have pizza is Tuscan Wolf in Whitby on Dundas west of Brock. Beautifully crafted and creative stone-oven pizza served up in a cozy red-and-white checker tablecloth room downstairs and a larger, more elegant room upstairs. The tiramisu and espresso alone are worth a visit.
Why mention the intersection? It’s rapidly becoming the Ossington of the burbs. There are many good places which begets more good places…
Has anyone had a chance to try Gracies Pizza pop-up yet? $18-21 per pie is quite reasonable, and they look incredible. Mamas Liquor Lounge (next location for pop-up) is a bit far from me in Yorkville, but thought I’d ask if others have had their past pop-ups.
We revisited One Night Only as we were having a friend over for lunch. Their pizzas remain very enjoyable, with a crust with good chew and fun toppings.
Their current feature pie is Rosé All Day: lemon rosé sauce, grass-fed mozzarella, house-made fennel sausage, asparagus, red onion, fresh basil, and grana padano grated overtop.
Too funny @DrJohn , I also did One Night Only (ONO) last weekend but we visited for lunch before having a park afternoon.
Each got a slice (spicy pepperoni and the square is their daily special on a thicker foccacia crust) - both were delicious and arguably my favourite slices in the city only under Badiali, and given the lines there - I’ll take ONO’s ambiance and location anyday.
Slices are large, nearly a quarter pie and are $7-8 each IIRC, come with complimentary in-house garlic sour cream sauce. They cut each in half so we could swap and share.
Pala 148 opened up on Cumberland today. I have hunch it’s by the same folks who owned the gelato spot (so many name changes I have lost track what was it called last time)
Might try a slice as walk by almost daily.
