Poutine in San Francisco

I tried the poutine at Jamber in SoMa.

The good:
Fries were well fried and crispy, and there was a generous amount of melted cheese.

The bad:
The gravy looked like a chunky lentil soup and was kind of tasteless. It may have had a hint of garlic. The cheese was more like melted mozzarella than cheese curds. I wouldn’t reorder this.

Does this count?

So appropriate for this:

Can you imagine a pre-assembled casserole sized dish of poutine? Sounds like a poor way to serve it.

That’s more words than a discussion of poutine merits, but it’s true that poutine is Quebec’s shame and Quebec’s alone.

Fried bologna sandwiches are Canadian.

That’s an odd location for a restaurant, in the industrial strip that used to house the Whole Earth store. I’m looking forward to their opening.

And I just had lunch there. This was my first poutine, and I wasn’t impressed. The descriptions of french fries gone soggy from the gravy is spot on. Montreal smoked meat wasn’t that much different from supermarket ham slices. Other customers seemed to like it, though, but it’s just not my taste.
