[Penang, Malaysia] Hawker/street food options at Jin Cafe, Siam Road

Breakfast at Jin Cafe this morning. One of Jin Cafe’s offerings is the traditional Penang-style 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘦𝘦 - wheat-egg noodles dressed in dark soysauce, light soysauce, sesame oil, lard drippings & other “secret condiments” - conceptualised by kopitiam owner, Ah Jin’s own paternal auntie, Madam Teoh Cheng Kim.

Now 76-years-old, she has stopped cooking the noodles herself since the COVID lockdown started back in Mar 2020, but trained others to do so, using her recipes.

Madam Teoh had been selling wantan mee for more than 50 years. Her customers still drop by to see her, and call her “Ah Ma” (grandmother).

No visit to Jin’s Cafe is ever complete without ordering Raymond Teh’s Nyonya 𝘭𝘢𝘮 𝘮𝘦𝘦, simply the best in town!

My fave 𝘭𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘢𝘪 𝘬𝘢𝘪 and 𝘴𝘪𝘦𝘸 𝘮𝘢𝘪 in Penang can also be found at Jin’s Cafe. These looked the same on the outside with those sold at kopitiams and casual eateries elsewhere, but tasted inestimably better.
