I just heard through the grapevine that Thai Moon, which closed across from Arlington’s main library following a fire about 3 years ago, is planning to reopen further east on Mass Ave in the former Twyrl space. This is great news for me as I work in the area and really have missed them. I also heard Thana Thai, previously near Arlington High School, will be closing for good soon.

I’m about to pass out for so many reasons (in a good way). Thank you @stevestroud.

I didn’t even know they had relocated.

I seem to only have “coming soon news” these days . . . but in Waltham there are signs up for two new places on Moody Street.

Shiki Shabu Shabu - into old Playmake space

Waku Waku Ramen and Sake - into the old Moody’s fried chicken space

I’m always up for good Ramen and Shabu Shabu, so here is hoping they make it and are good!

I hope so too!

This will bring joy to nobody, least of all @uni, but here it is:

I literally just saw this today too. I am sadness.

Interesting (and disappointing on more than one level). I had not seen this tagline on their website, however I have not pulled it up in quite some time. We started enjoying Cafe Sushi as great value cheap eats and graduated to their superior omakase, which was also an excellent value. It’s ironic that Cafe Sushi has evolved into a relatively pricey take out spot.

It’s strange that they would bold but we no longer offer dine-in! but have not commented further (via traditional or social media, or directly to customers and neighbors who supported them through covid) about their decision and plans. The last time I was by, it still looked like they controlled the previous restaurant space which is prime real estate. I guess some of the space is used for prep.

A sad loss for the area and Boston sushi scene. Oh well, at least we can stop wondering and hoping now.

Terribly sad. So many fond memories.

Yes. Our thread on it was begun by you, and the last substantive post there was also yours:

Thank you so much @fooddabbler for linking me to that blast from the past. I kind of enjoyed it all over again while being even sadder about their departure from dining in options. It was great while it lasted and I suppose the lesson for all of us, as we have learned so many times before, is that nothing is forever.

Yes, that thread is quite a trip down memory lane (more so by its early reference to StripT’s).

As @Amandarama has memorably and brilliantly said just above, “I am sadness.”

I bought salmon nigiri as part of takout (Umi) and put red miso and caramelized shallots on it at home in memoriam. :pensive:

Yours is the last meal report on that thread. Ominously from Feb 2020. Surely there was discussion of what was on our doorstep, but none of us could have ever imagined the impact.

Truer words…

After that post I spent the following two weeks eating my weight in tacos in Tucson AZ and then boom.

This happened at the start of the year, and is neither a closing nor an opening rather (hopefuly) a continuing. Ihsan and Valerie have sold their three Formaggio Kitchen stores to their long time manager Julia Hallman. That’s probably the best possible outcome for those of us who want FK to continue its present high form for a long time to come. Julia has excellent taste and very high standards.

Just saw a piece on the PBS News Hour

on Comfort Kitchen

which apparently opened to much buzz early this year:
