Just adding that Pai Uptown (aka Pai Northern) should be avoided. I haven’t tried the downtown one, so can’t comment on that. But I also like Khao San Road.
Which dishes do you like most at Khao San Road lately?
I was a frequent visitor at its first location. I have only visited the current location twice.
I usually visit Nana on Queen West a few times a year, but is not open for lunch. Nana opens at 4 pm. The chairs aren’t too comfortable. I order take-out from Nana. Many of you know I mostly order take-out these days. Nana is owned by the same owner as Khao San Road, who I will disclose is a friend, who estufarian and I have known for years.
For people who are newer to Toronto, Chef Nuit and her husband Jeff, who are owners of Pai and Kiin, worked at Khao San Road when it first opened, before Chef Nuit and Jeff parted ways with the owner of Khao San Road.
I haven’t dined at Khao San Road or the downtown Pai for 7 or 8 years.
I like the food at Thai Nyyom. The detractors for most visitors and tourists would be its location further from downtown on a grittier stretch of Bloor, the bare bones atmosphere, relatively short hours, and the limited menu. The food itself is great.

Agree, just pandering to the uptown crowd.
My MUST order is the Squash Fritters [CAUTION: Do NOT order for delivery or takeout as it goes soggy].
Then I’ll probably have any of the curries (depending on my mood) and a noodle dish (usually Khao Soi).

I have ordered the KSR squash fritters inside, before 2020. I haven’t ordered them since, and I would not order them for takeout. I actually told Monte he could serve a smaller portion of them once, and he responded that he would not want to do that! A generous amount is part of his business plan.
I have tried all the curries that are offered, as well as Khao Soi over the years. They are nice versions.

Pai is good too! I think they are Michelin recommended. It’s owned by Jeff and Nuit Regular, a power couple in the Toronto restaurant scene with many restaurants including the aforementioned Kiin and Pai. Along the same Asian theme of my earlier recommendations, Nuit & Jeff just opened a Filipino restaurant called Makilala at 105 Church Street.
Toronto Life just did a article on this. I’ve not been there yet but it’s another of plenty of Asian spots that could be an interesting try.

Nuit Regular also opened Tha Phae Tavern, which has some fun drinks and some decent Thai dishes mixed in with bar food that attempts to be fusion-y, with mixed levels of success. I haven’t had a chance to post about it yet, but will at some point. It’s not open for lunch though, which is why I didn’t mention it before.
