John
It was I who asked you to report back. Thanks for your report. Quite thorough.
We will probably be taking an Oceania trip in the not-too-distant future. As I think I said before, they have the reputation of being the best food among the major cruise lines, so I was curious to get an opinion from someone who knows food. Few people who cruise and report on websites are foodies to the level of folks who inhabit sites like this, so it’s good to hear your thoughts. The Priesmans are one example. Their website is great and very helpful and I have recommended it many times. They are very competent amateur photographers and it shows, but they aren’t on the same level as food critics. Good food photos though!
One can’t expect three star, foodie oriented dining on big cruise ships, but generally you can get pretty good things, especially if you know what you’re doing and order carefully, like your pork chop. I was disappointed, but not surprised, to hear your thoughts on Red Ginger. I’ve noticed the same at Celebrity’s Asian restaurant. There just aren’t many typical cruisers who are familiar with high level contemporary Asian cuisine, so it doesn’t show up.
Again, great review. Many thanks.
