When you mentioned Thai in your original post, I never guessed that spice might be a major sticking point. As vinouspleasure suggests, your Zaab Zaab server will surely work with you, but perhaps take his other suggestion, too, and book a second reservation, at SaRanRom. Then take a good look at both menus and give the runner-up fair notice.

We loved Zaab Zaab in Queens.

Food, service, value and overall experience - just about perfect.

All of us were happy with the spice level of what we ordered. I avoided the curries and larb because the server described those as the spiciest, even the mild versions. Even so, a spice-avoidant colleague ordered the mildest larb and inhaled it delightfully. It was duck, I believe. (The final photo in the series is his decimated plate. )

I had the best plate of pad see ew that I’ve eaten since I left Thailand in 1995. The side dish of sautéed morning glory was so so good. My Chinese-Canadian colleague ordered a spicy whole steamed fish, which came to the table in a dish-shaped boat set over some sterno. Trying a bite of it, I experienced “mouth-numbing” heat for the first time ever. Another colleague ordered a green papaya salad platter that she loved. There were dollar wings for happy hour, so we started with those, and loved them. They were dusted lightly with an addictive sour-spicy coating.

I’d go back just for the morning glory.
