Not true… some 35+ years ago, I was quite heavy and unhealthy. I had horrible eating habits, as well.
One day, I decided “NO MORE”, I started counting calories and took up running. Of course it took a while to build up the strength in my legs but I ran 2-5 miles everyday for 30+ years.
I’ve switched to bicycle riding as I aged, but still enjoy exercising and watch what I eat. Both my doctor and I are quite happy with all of my numbers (weight included).
I remember exactly when it happened. My girlfriend (at that time) was driving us home from a party, as I had been drinking (she had not). I had this huge platter of deviled eggs I was holding on my lap, this was her contribution to the party and very few were eaten.
I polished off that entire platter as she drove. The next morning I stepped on the scale and was horrified. Then I looked in the mirror and said “No more”.
I started looking at my calorie intake (more seriously) and what I was actually eating.
My first day of “running” was barely a brisk walk as I attempted to get up and down my street. I increased the distance each day, eventually ending with 2-5 miles everyday. That habit continues to this day (with bicycle riding being substituted for running).
I thought my post would be no different than any number of similar topics as of recent, but since it’s been hijacked to include pathologies that were never part of the original article and has now devolved into name-calling, I guess there is no point of continuing.
