Noom thread

One friend I mentioned in my OG comment was active on CH (@buttertart), but she’s not an active member here. I know she did pretty well in the beginning, but she’s been quiet in my Fb Hangry Women group, which you’re welcome to join

Another beef I had with the program: the seemingly rather random assignment of colors.

What’s the premise of the fb group? Will you pm me about it?

Of course. It’s just a friendly group with roughly 30 members — all women with different approaches/programs, not all of them active, but all of them supportive and kind. It’s also a private group, so by invite only to keep out the nasties

Happy to send you a link!

I thought someone else mentioned it here a couple of years ago. But heck, it could have been 8 years ago at CH.

I just recall looking at the basic description, and got a pretty favorable impression of it at the time.

I think anything that includes Rogue River cheese, especially for blue cheese lovers, would be freaky tasty!

I bet there are some active Noom Subreddits.

There are for sure noom social media groups out there. I just started here as this is also a group of people that loves good food as well as trashy food, loves to cook, shop, dine out… Kindred spirits if you will.

I was surprised not more peeps in my group were doing it. It was the former CH I mentioned further upthread, my bar manager friend who found the logging incredibly tedious, but she dropped 30 lbs initially, and I. Some are on those spiffy new drugs, a couple are doing WW, another has a personal trainer/nutritionist who’s been working out really well for her, and folks like myself who take a … random approach at it all.

A guy I know lost 40 lbs with noom or so, but dudes don’t count

. Logging is a slog, but it is the only real look I get at how, and how much, I eat. First step to changing those things.

Absolutely :crossed_fingers:t3:

I did Noom for about a year and a half, lost around 15 pounds, most of which I’ve gained back. Their psych approach was enjoyable at first, after a year it started to seem annoying and cutesy and eventually I lost interest and incentive. I did learn some things, and still sort of follow their color guide.
I question a few of their color choices, too, as did my husband, who doesn’t know squat about nutrition beyond salad-good-bacon-bad.

I agree re their cutesy psych being annoying and some weird food categorization. I also don’t fully trust their food stats unless it comes right off a label. But I’ve found that being accountable and regular logging is working for me. I think for me the trick was to use their tools that work as is and tweak the ones that don’t quite. So for instance their daily weight loss range for me doesn’t work, but staying at the lowest 100 cal of that range does work. The kitchen scale and weighing everything has been a game changer compared to diets I’ve done in the past using volume. I’m going to give it the old college try. It’s been just under 8 wks and 11 lbs.

Thank you! Good start. Long way to go. But I feel like I’ve got enough will in me to do this for awhile yet. Made a giant som tam for dinner w Pam sautéed shrimp. Also toyed with a muffin recipe from the low cal bake thread. 2 tbsp each oil and sugar. The rest was fruit and yogurt for sweetness and moisture. Pear ginger. Prob have one for pm snack. But they look pretty and smell good. 122 cal per.

You said it better than I did. I did learn from Noom, and I think you’re spot-on.

They aren’t perfect and nothing is. But I needed the structure and discipline of something because just doing the “right” thing when I felt like it was sending me in the wrong health direction.
