New York Food Court, 33-35 Roosevelt Ave, Flushing

I don’t think we’ve ever come to a consensus, but I don’t think that anyone would give the nod to the new Golden Mall. In addition to the New York Food Court, however, you’d also enjoy a visit to the New World Mall Food Court, if you’ve never been. It offers as many food stalls as the other two put together.

Thanks so much Dave, I had completely forgotten about the New World Mall, it probably fits the bill for today’s activity even better than the other two.

New York Food Court is perhaps a bit more interesting / gritty imho than New World Mall FC, which has a lot of chains. But lots of choice either way.

If I’m taking my better half it’s new world, on my own it’s ny. @Saregama and I explored some of the smaller, hidden food courts off of main st, lot’s of fun!

There’s a new, large food court in the basement level of the 99 Ranch market, on Main St. north of Roosevelt (that is, in the other direction from the smaller, hidden food courts). As of now, soft-open; only about half of the 28 stalls are in operation.

have you tried anything interesting down there dave?

No time; popped in on my way to lunch.

Where did you lunch?

Woodam, a beef-centric small Korean restaurant on the site of the former Charming Sichuan.

thanks

Here’s a quick look.

Oof. Informative, but as a former videographer/editor, my eyes are bleeding. Also, it is NOT COOL to shoot people when there’s a good possibility they may be undocumented - I saw several ducking down to avoid the camera.

This is it:

Incidentally, stall #3 next door has undergone a facelift:

I believe Yozi’s in golden mall serves a similar dish. I dunno, maybe that’s not golden mall but it’s in flushing. There’s also a store front on kissena.

FWIW, here’s a glowing review from yelp. I have a tennis thingie at the national tennis center coming up, if I can still walk after, I’m gonna take the subway one stop and give it a try.

Best,

i bow to your superior googling skills, where is it?

Could have sworn I walked by it earlier this year but I can’t find it now. Doh.

There’s one in Brooklyn too.

You remember right: There’s one in the Golden Mall.

Dave, I looked at the other places lily, the yelp reviewer from my post, liked and in her review of tastes of Urumqi, she states: “hands down the best, most authentic xinjiang uyghur food in flushing” and goes on to say she’s tried them all.

Have you given it a try?

I haven’t. I did eat at the predecessor Uyghur restaurant, which has since moved to Woodhaven, and it was fine. I stopped in once to have a gander at this successor Uyghur restaurant, and it seems fine, too.

Lily’s enthusiasm is not convincing, but I’d consider giving Taste of Urumqi a try sometime when you’re around. Perhaps we can round up another lamb-eater or two.
