Well, clearly we need to return and get to the Owl when it’s open. What your party ate pretty much sounds like Mr. travelmad478’s ideal meal—he is a major patty melt aficionado, and that plus beans with green chiles would pretty much send him into nirvana.
We also did some very nice birding at Bosque del Apache NWR. It was chock full of sandhill cranes when we were there (September), plus tons of other birds.
did you read the HISTORY of that place? they were encouraged to start offering food by “prospectors” bunking nearby who turned out to be scientists working on the atom bomb nearby. Plus, Conrad Hilton was apparently from that area and used to run a boarding house in that hamlet. BTW the bean dish was mostly roasted green chiles, it was pretty intense. I love New Mexico!
