Macchialina
After lunch I wandered around the Wynwood neighborhood for awhile. Here’s some non-food pics from there.
For Tuesday dinner I went to Macchialina in South Beach, an Italian restaurant from chef Michael Pirolo.
It was quite busy Tuesday night at around 10pm. Here is the brief menu.
I had the four course Chef’s Tasting Menu for $70, along with the wine pairing for another $55.
To start, there was a panini, which was a pita bread like pocket filled with tender porchetta, salsa verde, and some vinegary hot sauce on the side. Great! I couldn’t find this dish on the menu.
CREAMY POLENTA
SAUSAGE SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS & CHIVES
Next was a polenta dish, which was also great. It was creamy with a bit of broth, and some very nice mushrooms.
TAGLIOLINI AI FUNGHI
ABALONE MUSHROOMS & PARMIGIANO
Then, a pasta dish with mushrooms. This was so good. It had fresh made pasta, thin slices of big abalone mushrooms, and some black truffle bits.
MEDITERRANEAN SAN BRANZINO
SUNCHOKES, BROWN BUTTER, DELICATA SQUASH & TRUMPET MUSHROOMS
The next course was a branzino, which was perfectly cooked with meaty firm flesh and a crispy skin. There was some slightly sweet and tender delicata squash underneath the fish.
Before dessert there was a pairing worth mentioning - a concoction made of gin, chocolate and Calabrian chili that is aged in-house. It tasted like a boozy, spicy chocolate milk.
BREAD PUDDING
BANANA, WALNUT CRUMBLE & BITTER CHOCOLATE
For dessert, a delicious bread pudding. There was a rich cheesy (?) thing on the left. The bread pudding was warm and a little gooey with caramel.
Great dinner at Macchialina! And also a good value.
And that’s a wrap for this report!
