McDonald's in General

All great choices. I think I like most of their breakfast menu, but if I have to choose, then egg McMuffin.

I didn’t even know about this. Good to learn.

Back in SoCal we used to have a local chain “Woody’s Smorgasburger”. You walked in to see a huge open flame grill behind the counter. Once you got your burger you traversed down the counter to a salad-like bar with literally every burger topping you could imagine (and their 1000 island was amazing), and then to a similar setup for sundaes/shakes.

One of my favorite places as a kid.

Just googled it. It does not exist anymore: Woody’s Smorgasburger

I used to get a sausage McMuffin with egg every Sunday on my way to the dog park, until I saw the nutritional information. 31g total fat, 12g saturated.

Well, no one said you cannot share half of it with your dog.

Yeah… they’ve been gone for decades. And I just checked Fuddrucker’s site and they now have only ONE location in CA (Concord). Back in my SoCal days they were everywhere.

If you find yourself in the L.A. area, check out The Shack in Playa Del Rey. One of my fav burger places that is actually still there.

I know, right? :anguished:

I liked and would go to a Fuddrucker’s when we’d visit a town that had one. I liked being able to put my own condiments and vegetables on my burger and bun. We had a similar burger place in the BA that was called ‘Squeezer’s’ and I liked how they put it out there for us. The only thing going for McD’s IMHO is the fries but only if they’re fresh out of the fryer.

I thought about going to McDonald this evening, but totally forgot and now I am at home. Maybe next time.

I’m with @shrinkrap. I know, I know, but I can’t eat a well done burger. Back in the day, I used to get them “my way” at Kirk’s in South Pali.

Since then, if I’m forced to go to a fast food, it’s a fish sandwich. Quality depends on the shift cook and time of day. We usually are among the first lunch orders and sandwiches are scorching HOT as are fries.

I try a lot of the limited time offers.

It looks nice. It certainly looks a bit more juicy than the Big Mac. Despite the Big Mac is most iconic, the patties are thin, so easily over-cooked and dried out.

Wendy’s is usually a juicier burger than McD’s. I still like McD’s.

Fish fillet and Egg McMuffin. I’d also like a sausage biscuit, but it’s on the forbidden list for me these days.

Hadn’t thought about Fuddrucker’s in decades. First encountered Fuddruckers in Houston on business, and remember being able to take a longneck beer from iced tub to drink while waiting in line to order. You could make a salad from all those condiments.

Re: Another try on the Filet o’ Fish…

So yesterday I bought a box of Van de Kamp’s Beer Battered Fillets. I originally went with the Gorton’s for two reasons: first the Van de Kamp’s sandwich fillets are minced (and supposedly the Gorton’s are whole), second was a taste test recommendation by ATK (should’ve known better).

I did these exactly as directed… 9 minutes per side on a lightly oiled/salted foil lined baking sheet in a 450°F oven. Put them on a warm plate and started the McCain fries on the same baking sheet in the flash oven on 7 minute hash brown cycle. When 2 minutes were left on the cycle, I transferred the fish from the warm plate to the flash oven.

The beer batter coating is slightly smoother than the coating on a real Fo’F, but is much closer than the craggy coating on the Gorton’s. Plus there is real fish inside as opposed to Gorton’s (which were mostly batter with very little, tasteless, mushy fish inside of it).

They came out impressively crispy, holding up to a puddle of tartar sauce. The internal fish itself is flakier and not as firm as a real Fo’F filet, but was flavorful and at least as thick.

7/10 compared to a freshly made Fo’F, and would be an 8 or 9 if I could recreate that steamed, pillowy bun. (c;

I do a mean egg mcmuffin with sausage and cheese…

Bob Evans “original” pork sausage, one pound / 16 ounce roll sliced into 12 patties - i.e. 1.25 ounce each. par fried, cooled, frozen…

one English muffin - Bays is our fav - toasted

start ‘re-cook’ of sausage - 3 minutes at power level three (ymmv…)
toaster down for the split muffin

one large egg, cracked into bowl, poured bowl into egg ring, egg yolk busted as white sets . . .

flip when 90% done
hit the sausage patty with 10 secs 100% microwave power . . .

toasted muffin bottom
add sausage patty
slide cooked egg ‘patty’ onto sausage
cover with slice of white American cheese

zap assembled McMuffin for 10 secs at 100% microwave power to melt cheese

looks like:

unless you’re standing there as they make it . . . home made is a winner.

All the Fuddruckers around me closed years ago. I just googled; there are none left in my state.
