Winter 2019 - Korean

KOREAN - Cuisine of the Quarter, Winter 2019 (Jan-Mar)

Hey HOs! We’re cooking with spice this quarter - KOREAN was our winner! I enjoy Korean food but have never really cooked it much at home - I don’t have a single Korean cookbook on my shelves, actually. I do have an H-Mart nearby, though, so that should at least get me started! I look forward to learning more from you!

LEVANTINE (ISRAELI) - Spring 2019 (Apr-Jun) Cuisine of the Quarter

We had a close race between Israeli and Turkish cuisine this quarter, with Israeli winning by one vote. However, the broader Levantine area encompasses both Israeli, parts of Turkey and many other countries in the region, so we will have plenty to explore! I look forward to discussing the flavors of this fascinating region with you all in the coming months!

THAI - Summer 2019 (Jul-Sept) Cuisine of the Quarter

The votes are in and we decided to spice things up this summer with THAI! I am very excited - I have had a copy of David Thompson’s Thai Food for ages and I keep meaning to delve into it, but somehow haven’t been able to concentrate on it. I look forward to learning and experimenting with you all in the coming months!

Autumn 2019 - Italian

ITALIAN - Fall 2019 (Oct-Dec) Cuisine of the Quarter

We had a tight race this quarter between Mexican and Italian, but my love of Bolognese won out so I cast my tie-breaking vote for ITALIAN! I look forward to exploring all of what Italy has to offer with you fine HOs this quarter!

Winter 2020 - French

FRENCH - Cuisine of the Quarter, Winter 2020 (Jan-Mar)

FRENCH was our big winner this quarter! I missed that we actually had two French nominees (both Provincial and Provençal) in our nominating thread, and put only Provençal in the voting, but all French cooking is welcome on this thread! Looking forward to exploring rich sauces and classic techniques with you HOs for the next few months. Happy new year and bonne année à tous!

COOKOUT/PICNIC/BBQ - Summer 2020 (Jul-Sept) Cuisine of the Quarter

There were no nominations this quarter so I made an executive decision on COTQ. It is still difficult to commit to a specific cuisine given the shortages we are all facing. However, since we’re all staying home and/or vacationing close to home due to COVID, I am guessing we will all be dining al fresco and doing some picnicking for fun! So, I hereby declare COOKOUT/PICNIC/BBQ FAVORITES as this summer’s COTQ. Hit us with your best outdoor ideas, HOs!

BRITISH - Fall 2020 (Oct-Dec) Cuisine of the Quarter

And just like that, the days are crisp and the leaves are turning. Fall is here and we have decided to concentrate on BRITISH cuisine for Cuisine of the Quarter! I look forward to learning more about traditional dishes and culinary influences throughout the UK. CHINESE - Cuisine of the Quarter, Winter 2021 (Jan-Mar)

Hey HOs! We had a very close COTQ race this quarter, with Greek and Chinese tied for the win this morning. I cast my tie-breaking vote for CHINESE, so that’s what we’ll be cooking this quarter! I look forward to exploring this vast and varied cuisine with all of you. The votes have been counted and the Vikings won by a nose! SCANDINAVIAN is our Cuisine of the Quarter this Spring. I don’t know much about the food of the cold north (beyond pickled herring and a few baked treats), so I look forward to learning along with you. Skål!

GREEK - Summer 2021 (Jul-Sept) Cuisine of the Quarter

We had a close race this quarter, with GREEK eking out a win over BBQ. Lucky for me, I’ve got a garden full of oregano and tomatoes, and I’m not afraid to use them! Looking forward to exploring this marvelous cuisine with all of you HOs.

SLAVIC - Fall 2021 (Oct-Dec) Cuisine of the Quarter

We had a close two-way race this quarter, with SLAVIC beating Bengali by just one vote. This encompasses an enormous geographic area and multiple countries including Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Belarus, Bosnia and others. Happy New Year HOs! We’ll be kicking off 2022 with a cuisine that is new (or at least not well known) to me - JAPANESE. I love sushi but know almost nothing else about Japanese food, so I look forward to learning from all of you. 明けましておめでとうございます！Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu! POT-ROAST CHICKEN COOKED IN HERBY CRÈME FRAÎCHE Summer Kitchens by Olia Hercules Pretty straight forward dish, chopped finely a handful of fresh herbs, the recipe suggested dill and parsley (including stalks), I used a mix of parsley, coriander and tarragon.
