We live on the outer Cape. We had to drive to Dartmouth which is across the canal and near New Bedford about 1.5 hours each way to get our first Covid shots. The clinic was set up in an abandoned electronics store in a strip mall. We had appointments and security was tight - they had people trickle in. Better than standing in line for hours outside of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough like a lot of people did. We were able to get our second vaccine closer to home.
Or at Fenway Park, where lots of people stood in line for hours.
It was a relief when the whole situation got better, gradually. Including the Mass. state IT interface for vaccine appointments and availability
I’m glad you were able to your first eventually…we were able to get COVID tests in our car a few times going to a BIDMC outpost north of us from Somerville…on later dates, police had closed off access and told everyone to go home.
The outer Cape is a federally designated underserved medical community. Finding primary care doctors is almost impossible for people who for some reason decide to take jobs or retire here. My husband’s physician decided to turn his practice into a concierge service requiring patients to pay a monthly fee to stay with him, outside of insurance coverage. DH was able to sign onto care through a nurse practitioner who is qualified as a primary care resource and his appointment with her is in March, 2024.
We have lots of feelings about living [two blocks from] Boston…mostly, good but not all good by any means…and we’ve heard a lot about the lack of access to medical care on the Cape and elsewhere in Massachusetts. The Concierge practices are financially daunting to most people. Best wishes to you and your husband!
C-19 finally caught me; I’m on day 3 or 4. Some things taste strange and metallic, especially coffee, so I could only choke down a few swallows yesterday. So of course, this morning my caffeine headache was so bad I was ready to chop my own head off. Held my nose and drank 8 oz of cold coffee as fast as I could, then two cups of tea (which, oddly, tastes fine.)
Cracked open my post-lunch diet pepsi just now and sure enough, that tastes like shit also.
Hope this passes ASAP.
Sorry to hear about this and hope it resolves soon.
Ugh. Speedy recovery!
I haven’t had Covid yet (as far as I know) but I had to take metronidazole years ago for something - and it leaves a godawful lingering metallic taste-pall over everything. My solution: Altoids peppermints. Get well soon.
It happens i LOVE peppermint altoids. Thanks for the tip!
Curiously strong…
Oh, man, that’s rough. Hope you get your regular taste buds back soon.
!!
HAVE I BROKEN ANY RECORD?!
To date, I have taken 10 COVID shots & boosters…and yet, 2 days ago, I was tested positively for the 4th time!!!
The severity of symptoms diminishes each time!
This time, symptoms of pretty mild sore throat plus muscle/joint aches and pain, both persisted for only a day or two! No coughing so far?!
BTW, NeoCitran 'complete Flu ’ worked wonders!
I hope your sense of taste comes back and that you feel better soon, Charles.
The good news is that the up-to- date vaccines keep the severity down.
Sadly, the vaccines don’t help one from picking up COVID completely. The past infections with other strains don’t leave a long lasting immunity for future strains.
It’s too bad some people are out circulating while sick (with anything contagious) , infectious and symptomatic.
I was at the dentist’s office 2 weeks ago, and a patient brought an extremely 8 yo sick child, who was coughing and hacking, and looked like she had no energy from a fever, into the waiting room where there were many seniors. At the minimum, if this child was too sick to be at school on a Tuesday, she should have been masked with a surgical mask, especially if she was symptomatic anywhere near a healthcare setting and anywhere near seniors, the chronically ill, or infants.
The dentist’s office had texted and emailed all its patients a week before and on the morning of their appointment, asking them to reschedule if they’re not well.
This 40 yo dad didn’t see the problem with bringing a symptomatic 8 yo into the dentists’ office.
The office staff have become to afraid to call anyone on their rude and careless behaviour.
We have signs reminding people that abusive behaviour will not be tolerated everywhere now. At the dentist, the ER, my specialist’s clinic, the vet, the coffee shop, and at the bakery.
Not only do I not want to get sick, I don’t want my dentist, my hygienist, the receptionists, or any patients to get sick.
Your immune system keeps getting better at fighting it. That’s what the vaccine helps with. Good for you!
But your immune system can’t keep you from breathing it in…
