I actively pursued broccoli tempura (my favorite, and a very good rendition) and avoided shrimp tempura based on your posts – thank you very much!
It’s the sashimi combination ($35), 14=7 pairs of pieces of sashimi, comes with miso soup, rice, and salad. It’s on the menu in the “Entree” section. There’s also a Nigiri combination, which I haven’t tried (yet!).
P2 and I really enjoyed the tartare part of the dish, but neither of us got much out of the potato. What do you like most about that dish?
As for the potato, I’m a potato freak, and i loved the crispy, yet tender texture with the minced fish. i just thought the combination worked very well.
thanks for letting me know about the sashimi combo! Will have to try that one of these times!
Another great meal. Sashimi plate had toro, hamachi belly, hamachi, two kinds of snapper (red and gold), tuna, and salmon. All were very good, though the hamachi was a bit mushy. The gold snapper had a very firm, almost snappy texture. Broccoli tempura was top notch as always, and the sushi taco was very interesting – fried shiso leaf stuffed with spicy tuna, spicy tuna, crab, avocado, scallops, and tobiko. P2 and I ate them layer by layer, which was a nice way to enjoy a nice mix of things not on the sashimi plate.
oh my that sushi taco sounds great! i think my sister and i will have to try it this week. Did the broccoli tempura come with the plate? Or did you order it ala carte? Broccoli tempura is my favorite (next to shrimp - but not Kuriya’s - they use frozen, premade ones and they just didn’t taste good to us), and I was very surprised not to find any in Japan. Other veggies yes, but never broccoli.
You’re welcome!
i just find it so odd that they don’t have it there! Because it’s so commonplace here.
I mean, admittedly, I’ve only had tempura like 4 times in Japan, and only in 3 cities.
Hi jiaozi - can you tell me if the items you listed were on the specials menu? we’re planning on doing take-out tonight and i really want to replicate your exact meal!
