My local tienda latina has ripe avocados at the ready, as well as other ripe fruit. Never have to worry about planning or ripening them myself. I have given up on supermarket avocados.
After years of attempts to eat supermarket avocados, we have been surprised to find that the best, most consistently perfect avocados come from Wal-mart. Wal-mart!!! You have to leave them on the counter to ripen, but once theyâre ripe they are always excellentâno brown spots, even texture. Go figure.
Legit concerns! Iâve seen some pretty poor practices in my past food service experiences.
Great Caterers/Restaurants only serve ripe, in season fruits. Otherwise they are not that great.
I always worked with Local Farmers or/and Produce Companies that procure local Produce.
When Catering you run into Customers who try to insist that they have out of Season Items but we would refuse, sometimes losing the Gig but thatâs just tough.
Admittedly some Businesses cant afford to do that. Luckily We have quality driven People that are willing to pay for top notch Produce and understand eating seasonally.
They should!
Therâs only one family-owned store around here that I can absolutely count on to have consistently ripe pre-cut melon. I mean always. Even the other family owned groceries I go to donât manage. If youâre buying for one person, the premium isnât worse than the waste that would happen.
Iâve had some pleasant surprises with Walmartâs produce. The little âcocktailâ sized avocados and tomatillos have been just two.
