Forgot to write up the last round of college care packages, which I had a lot of fun putting together.
In addition to the greatest hits from the prior packages, I added some cooking helpers for the two kids who now have kitchens in their dorm apartments are cooking for themselves a fair bit, and some other snack and sweet favorites for the new freshman.
I spent some time browsing a large supermarket in Chinatown and was surprised to find single sizes of Thai curry paste, Mapo tofu kits, Rendang paste, and even a small portion of coconut milk powder! So all those joined an assortment of ready-to-eat and quick-assembly shelf-stable foods.
To that I added the homemade sweets and savories, and for one new york born, half a dozen bagels and as many bialys – these were the hit of the semester
.
This week I sent a follow-up package with an assortment of individual serving curry pastes of various provenances and flavors – Thai, Malaysian, and an assortment of Indian gravies into which they can drop a package of protein and/or vegetables.
And more bialys and bagels, which given the tundra temperatures, should arrive frozen
.
