Thanks… I’ll seek it out and get her opinion on it. She is more of an expert on ice cream than I am.
Thrifty’s still puts sliced pistachios in their “pistachio nut ice cream” (hence the name, I guess).
Good old Yellow5 and Blue1 - directly in the trash can
I had Thrifty’s Pistachio when I was visiting my sister. It had lots of nuts but it was a hideous green color and didn’t taste very good. Private Selection, which I think is a Kroger brand, has a Pistachio Honey ice cream that has pistachios in it. It’s been a while but I remember liking it. Talenti also has a pistachio gelato with real pistachios and is very good.
eta: I also used to like maple nut but it’s been years since I’ve had it.
That was probably me w the regifted ice cream maker. They’re actually quite reasonably priced new (under 100 for the basic insulated bowl models, which is what I have) and even cheaper (and not hard to find) at thrift stores.
If you have fruit trees (or neighbors with fruit trees) sorbet becomes even cheaper. We have a Meyer lemon tree and I may never buy commercial sorbet again.
The basic Cuisinart model (which I have and is the highest-rated consumer model) is EVERYWHERE at thrift shops and yard sales, as well as FB marketplace. I see them around constantly. I understand there are doubtless more important purchases in the queue, but these things can really be had inexpensively.
9 servings. Hah!
