Shrinkrap, I love this part of your report about Montreal! Between Schwartz’s and the market, I am trying to figure out what I can buy to eat on my train trip the next day. Produce like cherry tomatoes or smoked meats like sausage plus cheese maybe. I may need to buy a knife in Montreal and then ship it home since I cannot carry it on my flights.
Come to think of it, I wonder if I can get a knife aboard a Via train?
I just saw this, a year later.
And I have my sleeper reservation for the Via Rail Ocean from Montreal to Halifax in July. I am rather looking forward to it! I have my own tiny little sleeper compartment, which is something I am looking forward to a great deal. I am a bit of a train nut.
Not sure what time your train leaves, but Schwartz’s opens up kinda early. I’d grab some sliced smoked meat(fatty) and ask for bread and mustard on the side . Via can def give you a knife to use whilst on board. Have a fun trip! Montreal is one of my favorite cities!
It is a 1830 departure for Halifax now, so I may end up going to the market and Schwartz’s after I check out of my hotel and put everything in shopping bag with an ice cream sandwich or something to keep it cool.
I like your idea of asking for a knife better than finding out I cannot carry one on. I still have my knife from my first Trans-Siberian train trip. It is a horrid plastic Chinese folding knife but it was the only knife my circle of friends had on the train so it achieved totemic status.
Sounds like a good plan, I bet you end up eating the smoked meat on your first night on the train tho
Might as well grab a few bagels to nosh on since you’re there and maybe a delicious pastry.
I am excited for you!
I don’t have any better answers than what you’ve gotten, but I am looking forward to hearing about your trip! When will you travel?
This year husband has arranged an Alaska cruise in September, departing from Seattle and returning to Vancouver.
