It’s still winter. So why is California facing 100-degree heat?
have you visited any Tea Rooms?
It rained like hell here in the Central Valley (CA) yesterday and overnight: nearly an inch and a half! The sun is shining through puffy white clouds ATM, but there’s more rain in the forecast today and tomorrow.
This precipitation season is truly odd. A nearly dry March (one day of precip) had us thinking things were pretty dire, but with the rains this month, we’re actually over average and approaching 20" in total.
It was 29 degrees in NJ this morning, while reaching 80 degrees less than a week ago (last Thursday). This weather is insane.
On and off rain here in the Bay Area. I’m glad I missed the lousy weather last weekend. The April rains (and snow up in the Sierra) are out of the ordinary, but it’s good that we’re having them, though some of our plants are mighty confused.
It was 2C and snowing this morning. No accumulation, just enough to make you sigh, turn around and go back inside.
Not this trip. Not since i visited the Angel’s Tearoom in Torquay months ago.
I need to find another that has a small treat rather than a huge sugary feast. ![]()
And several ski places closed early!
Mine closed on it’s previously announced closing date, but the last three weeks were sad, sad, sad.
I saw this from SFgate
“Despite heavy April showers, drought just crept back into California”
Supposed to still be cool first week of May ! ![]()
I am pretending I thoughtfully planned for my veg seedlings to still be in 4 inch pots.
I’m pretending it’s spring. Gorgeous day today, but down to -1C by Friday. At this rate, I may as well move to Montreal. Just a bit cooler but the food is better. (Montreal is my favourite Canadian city. Scratch that. It’s my favourite city.)
Between the temps and the rain, our berries are not going to be as good this year.
The blueberries came up early and are much more “watery” than in years past thanks to the recent rains. I have a feeling the same is going to happen with the strawberries. Not sure what the blackberries, marionberries, etc. are going to be like.
On the local news last night they reported that the rain in April did a fair amount of damage to the strawberries in the Salinas area, and were warning that the strawberries in the Central Valley may be similarly affected. The news mentioned the possibility of disaster relief funds for the growers.
