How to find food friends?

They haven’t run it for years, sadly.

I just stumbled on to this thread &, unfortunately, don’t think I can be of help in hooking you up with others in your area. However, after 20+ years of putting together & joining dining out groups, as well as meeting like minded folk in many cities/countries, I have some ideas that I don’t think you’ve tried yet. Of course, as someone who Saregama & small_h met (& now have to put up with) in NYC and who pilgrim made the mistake of introducing to her friends in Paris, you might want to be careful/selective with my advice lest you wind up with someone like me. Your call.
First, go on Yelp. Yeah, I know this is counter-intuitive but I just did that for Bellingham, Wa. and there are quite a few restaurant reviews/reviewers. I’d search for some of the least psychotic ones and take a look at what else they’ve reviewed near your area (if any). Then I’d contact them thru yelp and ask your question. Seriously, I think there are some… recently even.
You never know.
Secondly, I’d go on the CH archives and see who the posters (again, if any) were in your area. I know that there was a very strong Seattle group that all moved to another food board (mouthfulsfood.com) for awhile then left that and formed their own private network for years. I know this because I went out to eat with them several times when my wife and I visited Seattle. It’s been more than a few years, and CH sure didn’t make it easy to communicate with each other, but I think folks found ways to put their e-mails or other contact info. in there. If nothing else, the Seattle folk might know others who live nearer to you.
You can try to track some of the Seattle posters thru mouthfulsfood.com itself. None of these posters are still there but there are threads from 2015 (including mine, when I first visited Seattle and met them) where posters have real names or e-mails available. You can also try egullet.org & look thru their cooking and dining forums.
Or… you can move to NYC and join our group. Some of us are reasonably nice.

There is a Seattle foodie/dining group on facebook with quite a few participants. Alas, that is 90 miles from me. Certainly a doable trip for people I already know and enjoy. Very far if it’s all strangers that I’m trying to get to know.
