After my not too successful meal at Din Tai Fung Silvercord, I was desperately trying to find that Xiao Long Bao that made me excited several years ago. A HK chef used to rave about the place about its Xiao Long Bao the best in Hong Kong.
This early evening, I was in Kowloon doing some tea shopping in the Jordan district, since I was in the district why not have a snack before my dinner?! We had already tried a few days ago to eat in this shop, but it was closed on Wednesday, I knew where the place was located. It was around 6:30pm when I arrived. I had a short wait at the reception, and they find me a tiny place for 1 person.
The place was more decorated and clean than a neighbourhood wonton noodle joint. Hao De Lai specialises in Shanghainese food. They had a lot of food pictures on the wall.
Since I was on my own, and it was intended for a snack, I only ordered Xiao Long Bao and Fried Meat dumplings (Pot stickers) and some soy milk.
Xiao Long Bao was quite good, thin skin and a lot of juice inside the dumpling but I disliked the vinegar. Din Tai Fung’s vinegar with ginger slices taste better. This one was simply too strong, and 1 sided.
Before I didn’t notice that vinegar plays such an important role, but the harmony is importable.
The Fried Meat Dumpling was okay, I would preferred the skin be a tag finer.
On the whole, it wasn’t a snack, I wasn’t able to have a dinner afterwards. Later around 10pm, I accompanied DH after he finished his shopping to have his meal.
I didn’t taste other food, but based from what I have ordered, it’s a nice neighbourhood place to go if you are in the area, but not a destination restaurant.
