Greek, Balkan and/or Turkish restaurants, bars, coffee shops, groceries and bakeries in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area [Danforth] [Scarborough] [Ossington]

Quarry Café serves Cypriot and Greek food.

2560 Gerrard Street East, Toronto, Ontario
M1N 1Y1, Canada

I have not visited yet.

Quarry had the worst standards during the pandemic. Frighteningly bad. My spouse and I walked out and never returned.

I see by DineSafe they’re still disrespectful of their patrons.

Thanks for letting me know. I won’t make the trip east.

I was excited about the idea of Cypriot food. I don’t think anywhere on the Danforth or Pape serves Cypriot food right now.

I had noticed a place in Burlington a few years ago, which I have not tried

It was probably Mythos. Very few Cypriot dishes right now, but a few mentions of Cyprus, and halloumi is on the menu

@Googs
Milos in Pickering has Cypriot sheftalia on their menu.

Tried the mix kebab plate from my chef Mustafa today. It’s ok though I think it’s priced a bit high

I stopped by Select Bakery on Donlands near O’Connor for a coffee and pastries today.

There are 4 small tables with seats.

I had a Greek coffee, and I chose some pastries to share with a friend.

Pouros, a rolled walnut baklava.

Karidopita, syrup -soaked walnut cake.

Kataifi, a shredded Filo roll stuffed with nuts and soaked with syrup.

A melomakarona, a honey syrup- soaked cookie, and kourabiedes, powder sugar-coated almond shortbread cookies.

The melomakarona was a very good version for a commercial bakery.

We were happy with what we tried.

I also picked up some sour cherry juice, Cretan olive oil, dried beans, and other ingredients for Easter.

Ordered from Yaya Greek bistro today. Hmm despite good feedback very average food more like fast food level. Had the lamb chops and haloomi app.

Disappointing!

I have been hearing decent things about Masa Buka on Pape, Pape Village on Pape, and Greek Grill. Haven’t been to any Greek restos other than Mezes this spring.

Salonika in the old Megas space should be opening soon.

Had the mix kebab platter from Sibel as was on promo decent though I wouldn’t order at full price. Side order of dips were good as usual

Ordered from pizza pide and very pleased with the quality of dough. I say it’s back to same level when chef Mustafa was there before he opened up his own spot
In pic a mix pide with sujuck add on and vegetarian without mushroom and olives

We still very much enjoy Pizza Pide.

2 chicken souvlaki sticks ($9 each) and village salad (around $20) from Christina’s on the Danforth. The chicken was good.

Mezes is still my favorite. I usually get pork souvlaki. I haven’t tried the chicken souvlaki at Mezes, Soula’s or elsewhere in about 8 year.

I’m trying to do chicken more often these days. I’ll post updates as I try the salads and chicken souvlaki sticks around town.

Salonika Estiatorio in the old Megas space is now open. The sandwich board showed several specials including Moussaka and lamb. I think the lamb special was $34.99.

I want to try chicken Adana kebab. There’s a chicken Adana kebab durum wrap available at one spot on the Danforth, Ala Antioch. https://alaantiochexpress.ca/collections/wraps

Chef Mustafa on the Danforth serves a beef Adana kebab.

Salonika at 402 Danforth. The menu is similar to the menus at Kalyvia, Astoria, Soula’s, Christina’s, the now tiny Friendly Greek, and Pantheon.

https://salonikaestiatorio.ca/

Slightly less choice than what Mezes offers.

I don’t find Messini is currently at the level of the other full service restaurants located on Danforth that I mentioned.

The lone employee at Alexandros seemed overwhelmed yesterday. I would head to SouvLike or Masa Buka instead, or Square Boy, for a simple fast food souvlaki in a pita.

Most Greeks I know are keen on Athens Restaurant located East of Pape, which has been renovated, and keeps more regional dishes and offal on the menu. I haven’t been to Athens since 2015 or so. It is brighter inside now.

Turquoise’s menu looks good. A location in Vaughan and downtown.

Another successful delivery for the guests for Sibel today. I have shared other items before. Adding Pic for the grilled chicken (one person only eats white meat) with side of bulger. They have finally listened and only included bulger side instead of the rice/bulger mix they had been sending before. They had a San Sebastian cheese cake freebie as well will report back on it later.

I’ll have to check this place out

Meet Point on Roncy had a chicken Adana kebab available. I will try it soon.

Screenshot.

The poutine option at Keko on Dundas W in the Junction cracked me up.

No Adana at Lukum Eats in the Junction.
