Greater Toronto Closures of 2026 [Greater Toronto Area] [Toronto]

I think the economy is shaping what most people will spend money on. And restaurants are counting on sure things.

Very tight margins.

The Star ran a story recently mentioning Mimi and Enigma Yorkville moving in a more “approachable” à la carte direction. Is this the death of fine dining in Toronto? Why the city’s top chefs are pivoting to the $20 meal
But bucking the trend, Alo just reopened after a couple of months reno and seems to be sticking to its high-end approach. I also see on Instagram that LSL is now rebranding as ONZE after Didier Leroy retired, so we’ll see if they stay with their luxe menu and stratospheric pricing.

The Duke of Kent on Yonge North of Eg has closed after almost 50 years.

The Duke of Cornwall at 400 University and the Duke of York on Prince Arthur are open.

There were 5 or 6 Duke Pubs in 2019. (Kent , Richmond, Somerset, etc)

Delysee Yorkville is closing shop. Oddly I thought it was busier than the spots that occupied that space before. Saw this in post (Yorkville)

I will add closures elsewhere in Ontario, as well.

Full disclosure. I had akways hoped Jose Hadas’s Mad Mexican would get that spot.

No, the part that concerns me is this. “The city has also signalled plans to roll out a new “lease strategy,” looking to shake up the mix of businesses at the market and possibly make changes to the rent.”

The City manages SLM, but it does not own it. We do. If they wish to change the nature of SLM they need to take it to a vote. SLM has fed families for centuries. I would hate to see that squandered by the short-sightedness of a temporary administration.

I think Sue Fung’s Dim Sum Canteen closed?

No mention on their website or Instagram. But the Google Maps listing says Permanently Closed, and a couple of other sites mention their closure also.

I went in mid-February for the first time, and found it such an odd experience. Counter service only, disposable plates and cups, clean up and sort your own garbage.

Yes, the space was papered up when I walked past yesterday. It’ll be interesting to see what comes next.
