The legendary ’ Sushi Kaji ’ has reduced their Sushi Omakase price by a whopping $40!!..from $160 to only $120! A surprising rarity in this day and age of skyrocketing inflation!
What is Kaji doing that others don’t seem capable of? Better sourcing? Caring about their customers?
Even before the price drops…authenticity, quality and quantity of food, value for money.
Based on Kaji’s, seniority, reputation and status, ability to share top notch products like large prime cut of Blue Fin Tuna, Hokkaido Uni…etc, with other noted ’ Japanese ’ establishments.
Farm raised vs wild caught …
Different pricing based on “rarity”, “premium” products or not, “the demand at the time”, where it’s sourced, the different suppliers and their fees, etc. …
Even the same type of fish/ingredient has different pricing based on many factors …
Gift link (I hope, it should be!)
Location may be a factor. That strip plaza where Kaji is, is not in the best area of town and I would imagine his rent is lower.
Also, do we know if the price drop was commensurate with reduced food quality/size? Though cost of sushi have leveled off, but a $40 drop (25% reduction) is quite steep for Kaji to absorb all himself. Restaurants are not high margin businesses to begin with.
Thanks for the share … sadly The Star wants me to sign up to access it. BLAH …
Boo.
It was allowing me to open it as a gift article. I do subscribe to both The Star and Globe. Crazy not to.
Anyway, I like the concept, but the ordering process is sluggish and poorly focused. They’re also gonna have a helluva time securing an app given there’s already a Cookunity on Google Play.
I read The Star and other newspapers through public library’s PressReader. But there is some online content that doesn’t make it to “newspaper” edition until later if at all.
I returned to Saigon Snacks on Ossington.
The banh mi and iced Vietnamese coffee combo is $16.30, which comes to $18 and change after tax.
I have tried their chicken Banh Mi, as well as cold cut Banh Mi. Good deal for this part of town.
I also like their coffees.
They have quite a few desserts available. The savoury food is limited to 5 different Banh Mi. These Banh Mi are smaller than the Banh Mi at Rustle and Still.
The Saigon Snacks Banh Mi are a better size for me, to keep my meals on the lighter side.
My $14 CAD Potato and Pickle Sandwich at Linny’s Luncheonette on Ossington. Generous.
The pastrami sandwiches and smoked fish sandwiches are $16 CAD.
Their chocolate chip cookies look promising. $4.
Seems like a fair price. Didn’t try them.
They sell Cott Cherry Soda.
