GOOD EATS NYC 2024 (A Blanket Thread)

Midweek second half of the month looks pretty good for me.

Predictable. You guys plan an outing. I will be out of the country for most of July.

In the interest of getting the thread back on track

A sultry Friday evening so we decided to head down to the water for dinner on the Pilot. Always spectacular views. Friday was no exception. We had a table forward on the starboard side with a great view.

Had trout roe to start. The trout roe comes with crispy potato which I think are the same as the ones I get at Trader Joe’s. Enhanced with crème fraiche and pickled onion.

Oysters from Orient Point.

I had steelhead and the lovely wife a lobster roll.

A pleasant way to spend a warm evening.

The tables still have a reminder of when we had to use those annoying QR codes to look at menus on our phones. Thankfully now we get real menus.

1-5 times is a coincidence, always is a pattern :joy:

I guess you’re just going to have to pick a day and a place that work for you one of these days and do this in reverse!

Here’s the wonderful northern sausage at the wonderful zaab putawn on the ues. The chef had a Michelin star at zaab elee. Given our fruitless hunt in queens, I’m thinking I’ll have to try my hand at making this.

You had me at Halo-halo. FOB in Carroll Gardens, perhaps top 5 for us in Brooklyn, and moving up. No frills, solid Filipino comfort food. The sweet, addictive Corn Bibingka, Pugita salad, overnight chicken adobo, Filipino BBQ, short rib, Halo-halo all great. The pictured fish Inihaw is the only dish we are dropping from the rotation.
Still BYOB, and prices haven’t moved much since they opened in 2017. This meal was $50 pp including a 33% tip

I was there in 5/2022, and to be honest, I wasn’t that impressed. The 7-up shrimp and the octopus were pretty good, but the banana leaf fish was lackluster. Maybe the meat is a lot better than the seafood.

Yeah thats the fish Inihaw I mentioned. I liked it more years ago. Its all about the meat here

I tried that place out when it opened and found it so salty as to be literally inedible. And I LOVE salt! I was so bummed.

Have not been to Frankie’s 457 in a while. So on a way too hot Sunday we headed there for lunch.

Radish with anchovy vinaigrette and broccoli rabe antipasti.

I had the eggplant marinara sandwich. I had forgotten how good this is.

Should be part of any 36 hours in Brooklyn.

great place, very satisfying italian. Weve gone their with a mixed group of meat eaters, pasta eaters and vegetarians and everyone goes home happy. Eat outside though - the noise level indoors is too high for us.

Feel like I’ve already missed the summer with my nose to one grindstone or another. Am around till the end of August, and if I can get away will enjoy an outing!

time to give this place a try - unfortunately as disorganized as I am, when I am back in August will probably have forgotten all these resolutions!

Is it easy to get into for lunch?

Was way too hot to eat outside on Sunday. The noise level on a Sunday afternoon was fine. We like the soundtrack they play. Good music is a key part of enjoying a meal for us.

Made a reservation around 10:00 am on Sunday for lunch at 1:30. Place was full inside when we arrived. There were open tables in the garden but it must have been in the high 90s with a very strong sun so very few were sitting there.

Its not the type for high expectations. If there’s one knock its not a very varied menu. Meat heavy, not a lot of veggies, and the lone fish dish is ok at best. But its the type of neighborhood place I would love to have near me for meat nights (Tuesday to Sunday). Still need to try the ribs and a few others. Tho the corn is always a crowd favorite

And if you havent tried t their Aegean sis Rana 15, I would add to the list as well. There’s nothing like it in NYC that I know

Are we still talking about FOB (Filipino BBQ)?

this thread got tangled, sorry, no thought you were talking about Frankies 457. I have deleted my response.
