Gargiulo’s* (Formerly Portifinos) Tinton Falls NJ

Wanted an early dinner so at 4:45 called and was told come at 5pm for a table for 2!! We arrived and were promptly seated at a smaller 2 top. (not complaining at last minute I don’t expect anything however their 2 tops are smaller than normal it seems. Sharing the stuffed artichoke with our two dishes and a bread basket and your knocking something over picking up your water glass type of crowded table-top.

We started with the aforementioned stuffed artichoke which was a traditional lightly stuffed and served in a delicious garlic broth. They were smaller so they gave us two. (Sorry forgot to take a pic until after we ate the first one). Overall it was good.

Entrees: the Mrs enjoyed the sole last time so she ordered that again with side of sautéed spinach which she enjoyed again. I went with the lamb chops for two reasons; 1.) I genuinely enjoy them & 2.) I was curious after my $46. Mixed grill at Albariño earlier in the week to see how Gargiullo’s $35. Lamb chops would be. (Spoiler alert!!! They were good!!!) So they arrived and much to my pleasant surprise there were 4 double cut cops! Side of roasted potatoes that were good but seems like a half-assed effort to provide a side. They could be much better, I actually added salt, which I never do, and drizzled some olive oil over them.

The lamb chops were very good, they are described with a balsamic glaze which was scantily noticed but not needed or missed.

Side of broccoli rabe was so bitter I named it Connie after my mother in law! (Ok sorry Connie RIP!!!) I’m pretty sure they top it with some lemon juice because it was particularly tart this time. Although I do not enjoy broccoli rabe’ this way I respect it and it brings back many memories of being forced to eat it as a child. Lol So from that aspect I enjoy it but would not recommend it for the casual broccoli rabe’ consumer.

My 3rd time and the place is growing on me. It will never become the life long love affair I have with Jimmys but it’s still good and certainly worth a visit.

Once again upon leaving the incoming crowds were vast and the valet parking a zoo, someone is going to get injured there one day. Just a matter of time.

Cheers!!!
