Fried chicken chains

Is this how you get gumption?

I was considering a stop at Popeye’s but branched out & tried Chicko Korean Style fried chicken, a Canadian chain/franchise mostly in BC but now with Burien & Kirkland, Washington outlets. The chicken was hot & super crispy, but the ‘buldak’ “spicy sauce” was also quite sweet. (Not the first time I’ve been fooled by a menu that listed one dish as ‘sweet & spicy’ and another as just ‘spicy’ that turned out to also be sweet.) Might try again sometime, maybe the cheese snow or the soy garlic isn’t sweet?

Anyway, a new-to-me fried chix chain, anyone else tried it?

I tried PJ Clucks, a take-out fast food restaurant with a few locations in Toronto. The chicken was fine but I’ll probably try the strips instead of a sandwich if I return.

What is it topped with?
Looks like a spicy coleslaw?

It is topped with a coleslaw, some kind of special sauce that was supposed to be hot sauce, which contained mustard, and pickles. I added honey as an option. I asked them to hold the ranch. I ordered the regular chicken.

I like hot sauce on sandwiches.

I don’t like hot or spicy fried chicken, where the spices are added to the coating, so that’s why I chose the regular.

I always order regular at Popeyes or Mary Brown’s. It’s been years since I last visited KFC.

You owe it to yourself to try the broasted chicken at Danny’s Midway Bar & Grill in Smokey Point. Today was my second visit, and this chicken ($17.95, 4-pc, w/ joes and slaw), is hands-down the best fried chicken I’ve ever had anywhere. Old roadhouse dive.

NB: Chicken is a Sunday/Monday only thing.

Good to know, and I have Mondays off!

Total throwback. I’ve had one of their burgers, and it was also good.

I hadn’t had Popeye’s in years until today, when I stopped in and grabbed a couple of thighs (original) and Cajun fries for Mr. Bionda and I to have for lunch. The chicken was crispy, tender and juicy, but SO SALTY as to be nearly inedible (and I love salt). I had a couple of fries first and they were perfectly seasoned, but then after a couple of bites of chicken, they seemed bland because their flavor was obliterated by the chicken’s salt level. Maybe the spicy is more reasonable on salt?

I find the spicy chicken option always saltier than the original.

I think the amount of salt/ seasoning can vary a lot from location to location
