Fried chicken chains

That might explain why the quality of the offered product varies so much.

Beloved KC local chain

Southern Oregon local chain

I’m not fond of strips and sandwiches so I don’t frequent but they are enterprising and stepped into the void of a chicken craze our area has been left out of.

KFC and Chik-Fil-a are our only chains. Popeye’s and other assorted brands have never seen fit to grace us with their presence.

There was Chicken Holiday on Staten Island growing up and then at the end of my current block in Queens. It became a Ranch 1 and is now different mini chainlet. I miss Chicken Holiday and their joyful logo.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did not know about them.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken (KKC) is also Halal, and in many gas stations as you mention. Luckily I don’t live too close to one. The prices seem low but maybe because they’re not full restaurants. Otherwise I go to Popeye’s every month or so.

As a kid in the 70s and 80s, before fast casual, my family use to go to KFC all the time with mailer coupons. Comparing notes with others from that era, it was a very common thing…and reasoning was the same, mom didn’t want to cook but wanted something that resembled real food or a real meal and not fast food. Had KFC about 3 years ago…was kind of grossed out how soggy and greasy it was. Perhaps a one off but there’s better options now.

Don’t cook tonight, call Chicken Delight!

Anyone remember them, with the illuminated plastic chickens on the roofs of their delivery vehicles?

I remember the jingle! I don’t think I ever saw them in my neck of the hoods.

I was in Long Island, but a friend who grew up in the San Fernando Valley said he saw them. This was in the late 1960s.

What part of Long Island?
I was in Queens, but spent a lot of time in Hempstead and Valley Stream. Not sure most folks consider that Long Island, but I’m not familiar with the rest.

Syosset.

Hempstead and Valley Stream are definitely “out on the Island”.

I like Ezell’s chicken but not a fan of the sweet rolls.

Ma’ono is another good PNW mini-chain. They have sweet rolls too but I get the ‘fingers’ instead of the sandwiches. Huge, juicy, and spicy.

Yes. And Sisters & Brothers and T.S. Hooligans.

Ezell’s is OK, as is Heaven Sent. But neither is as good as I remember Ezell’s being 30 years ago. Sigh…

You may be right, I tend to agree. Difficult to tell with Ezell’s whether it actually was better originally, or just lost its luster. There was a divorce and franchising delusions involved, too, if I remember correctly.

They didn’t completely screw the pooch like Red Robin, though…

I will sheepishly admit that I started a somewhat germane subreddit a few months ago.

Basically, I’m trying to snap a photo of _FC, that is, a fried chicken place for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet. Anyone can add in their own photo, too.

Back on the subject, sort of, I didn’t grow up eating fried chicken. However, a random encounter with Japanese karaage (really, just Japan’s version of the stuff) changed my arteries for the worse two decades ago. In other words, when back in the U.S., I do seek out pollo frito every now and then.

Unfortunately, my last two visits to Popeye’s resulted in raw bird. They’re off the list for now.

I recall trying it, but not going back. Maybe just a little too far.

Here’s their list

I know I’m out in the sticks, but I’ve never heard of the majority of those. We have 2, Chik-Fil-A and Krispy Krunchy.

Same here, and I’m in the SF Bay area, sort of. I know Bojangles from somewhere I’ve lived; probably the DMV.

Jollibee is so overrated and meh, I tried it on 2 separate occasions and was not impressed.
