Freixa Tradición-- Madrid's new contemporary bistrot

I haven’t reviewed it here yet but I’m about to do so. Gurisa to me is an Argentina-Uruguay-Spain hybrid, although the feel is more Spanish than Argentina-Uruguay. Gurisa=girl in Argentina.
T
he owners are Argentine but have opened many restaurants in both Argentina and Uruguay (and the Ribeira Sacra, Galicia) and this past September have taken over the abandoned Sergi Arola Gastro in the Almagro barrio and given it a very welcoming and tasteful designer look on two floors. Yes, from our table next to the open kitchen you can see everything cooked on an open fire, as there is no gas. More details for everyone later. I did like it very much and hope to return very soon.

That said…
Since your hotel, The Heritage, is only a short 3-minute walk away, it makes more since for you to dine at Barbudo since you’ll be arriving at the hotel in the evening. Just remember my advice about requesting a particular table—the corner alcove one for more privacy.

Save Gurisa for your next visit. We hope it lasts, as it’s just getting to be known and has yet to receive a Repsol or Michelin recommendation to boost it, as it’s so new.

Maribel, would it be best to make that table request in advance?

Yes, request it in advance. It´s a 2 top.

I was a solo diner and so had just two dishes: a half portion of venison meatballs stewed and a cannellone of wild pheasant. But we’re very good with more classic taverns like flavors. Gurisa is more precise and sophisticated cooking with a much better atmosphere.

It’s only a 20 min stroll from Barbudo to Gurisa but I can see if you are tired and want something close Barbudo is an option.
