I would take this in a heartbeat!
@iluvcookies You have a built in audience here! What kind of informal tours have you enjoyed putting together?
She probably left due to the constant green parakeet noise
That sound can carry
Iâve mostly âshown people aroundâ and talked about the things I know.
Last time family came in, we met near the WTC Memorial because thatâs where they got off their train. We passed City Hall, the Woolworth Building, Park Row etc. and I talked about the landmarks (mostly general knowledge). We had lunch in Chinatown and explaining the menu was my favorite part. I felt like I had a lot more to say, but my brother was being, well, my brother
What I REALLY wanted to do was give a tour of the Garment District, or Ladies Mile, or the Lost Stores of 34th street, and talk about how and where the workers had lunch, how the customers dined, what drove the move of department stores uptown, how that changed womenâs ability to socialize.
What I think people might actually want on a tour: good pizza, good bagels, good coffee, Instagram worthy photos.
HOWEVERâif instead of an HO dinner, some of you NYC based members would like an informal tour with food, I could go for that. Over the summer when the weather is a little nicer, on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
Topics near and dear to my heart, thatâs for sure.
Itâs nice to associate with like minded people Thanks!
Not an either / or scenario for the nyc group
Iâm sure you can get a few of us together over lunch one of these days, once the weather improves, to test this out. Lots of good food in that area. (My mom would actually love a walk with kind of theme the next time sheâs visiting.)
