Food-shaped Jewellery

I have a new ring that I purchased in Dec. Have you seen the price of gold lately, though? The cost has doubled since last March.

I will probably melt some 10 and 14 K jewellery down at some point to make some 18 K pieces, but I’m not there yet!

I know a few independent jewellers, and I have been working with them.

It is possible to put 18 K posts on costume jewellery I already own so I could wear them. I don’t like any enough to put money into doing that.

Yup. I’m not buying anything new in gold at the moment.

I am reacting to some of my sterling silver, too, unfortunately. So any new pieces will be 18 K, or trial and error Silver.

It’s not exactly traditional, but lots of ‘alternative’ style jewelry, like my 90’s style captive bead rings, can be found in titanium or niobium, both of which are used in medical/dental implants.

A dedicated piercing/body art shop can probably point you to a number of options. Piercing jewelry has come a long way in the last 30 years. They can now make seamless, removable rings in a variety of materials, and there’s just generally a lot more available than the old industrial-style stuff like mine.

There’s also the possibility of non-reactive plastics, resins, wood (yes, I’ve seen some beautifully carved all wooden earrings).

Thanks.

Will keep these options in mind.

I mostly wore sleeper gold hoops or silver hoops for the past 30 years, changing to costume jewellery or semi precious jewelry for nights out.

It’s only in the past year that my ears have been burning after I have worn some earrings, including a pair of hoops I have worn most days since 2006.

I knew about platinum and titanium, did not know about the others. I

This croissant necklace popped up on my Instagram today .

one absolutely must consider the “SO” appreciation of ‘things jewelry’
I found/bought an amber mucho-billion-years old bug captured/frozen in the amber.

she deems it not significant, and does not wear/carry it.

which, I don’t concur , . . . but that is a cultural issue.
ps: I’ll toss the amber - absolutely keeping the wife…

I wouldn’t toss the amber.

Visit or contact an independent jeweller and see if the jeweller will swap the stone for one your wife likes. Or consign the amber at a ladies’ consignment shop.

I have 3 pieces of amber. Much more popular in northern Germany, Poland, Scandinavia, and Russia than it is here.

our youngest is a tad more ‘nature connected’ and she expressed interest in the amber,
so not gonna’ get tossed . . . .

I found it in a Swedish shop - they had billions of amber pieces - took me quite a while to find the right ‘photogenic’ bug . . .
