Food racism $200k payout

I believe the $200k was settlement. And they said they weren’t in it for the money but to address the situation (which will obviously not improve under the current US regime). They were modest and reasonable in their requests and not wanting to draw things out.

Ok. You’re going to hate what I say next: having met quite a few anthropologists I will say that a course of study is no inoculation against racism and small mindedness. Usually it’s wrapped in assumptions of knowledge so this guy jus sounds like he had a visceral response and he’s allowed to have one. Anthropology does not mean Mondo Cane.

However, I acknowledge that my particular knowledge set makes the conversation less fun for you. So I apologise.)

No need to apologize. This is a random, casual conversation on a interwebz forum. In any case, I agree Anthropology isn’t immunity to prejudice, old thinking or anything else. If anything, it confirms biases in many ways. Hell, I had an Anthro prof who was a CIA operative and his gibberish research more or less confirmed it.

However if Anthropology prof is freaked out by the sight of a whole fish, he’ s not worldly despite doing international research. Sheltered really, to the way of most of the world’s people has seen a whole fish with eyes. Seems pretty basic, seeing a whole fish and not being freaked out. If you’re going to study and explain the world and cultures, FFS don’t be freaked out by a whole fish. This is common human stuff and a pretty basic bar to pass. I won’t say it’s do not pick your nose in public territory but it’s pretty freaking basic IMO…and a person awarded a PhD in human study of culture should pass that bar, every freaking time.

p.s. $100k per person is commonly referred to as nuisance money. That’s what Western heads of states pay pornographic actresses to legally stay quiet.
