Second dinner in lovely and lively Fiumicino was Pizza. I have become so enamored about this seaside town a few minutes ride from the airport that I may attempt to include it to any trip in and out of Rome:
On a Friday night the town, which straddles the Tevere (Tiber) outlet to the sea, was beautifully lit and there was a happy, relaxed feeling as we exited our hotel (Hotel Seccy, a few blocks away) and took a walk before dinner, before arriving at the pizzeria place recommended by the front desk persons at the hotel.
For a town on the sea so close to Rome, why does Fiumicino not get more foreign visitors? It’s close to Ostia Antica, for one thing, and also has a beach which I never visited since I’ve not been there in high season. But it is so lovely! Additional background: Many Jews were settled in this town en route to America after the Holocaust and after…highly recommend the book by Lucette Lagarde entitled MAN IN THE WHITE SHARKSKIN SUIT, for more background about a difficult period in which Fiumicino played an important role, as I believe it does today.
We made our way to CLEMENTINA for pizza; suffice to say that these were astounding pizza although I am not an expert on the various flours and oven temperatures. Let the pics speak for themselves. We left VERy happy and staff were so accommodating, so seemingly happy to meet Americans!!
We saw no other obviously foreign tourists there, or elsewhere in the town apart from in our hotel where people seemed to be checking in for the night and leaving in the am…
Ok, some photos from a highly recommended eatery fronting the Tiber, in Fiumicino town.
