I just loved that group BITD. They were so cool. One time my mother asked me who was playing at our little Saturday night concert venue and I told her, “Joy of Cooking”. She didn’t believe me until I showed her the sign on the building. JOC was one of her favorite cook books , other than James Beard’s fish cookbook.

I took a group of kids to Mexico once. By the time day 3 came, they’d had enough authentic, and when we went to a resto to eat lunch, the had boring old mayo tuna salad and saltines. Those kids cleaned that up right now. They were so relieved to find something familiar. Still, I’d rather have the red/green, too.

This actually happened to me too, when I was quite young & decades ago. Traveled in Mexico for a couple weeks with a companion, and got pretty far off the beaten tourist path. Once we left Guaymus/San Carlos, the food we found was interesting, but not in a good way. I blame us, am sure there was lots of excellent food, we just didn’t find it. No internet then, etc. First thing we did when back across the US border was to hit up a fast food drive thru. Think it was Jack in the Box. Enjoyed it.

Never been to Guaymus/SC. I always tell kids to try the fast food joints in Mexico. One thing I’ve learned: seemingly EVERYWHERE in Latin America has great subs. No kidding. Fried chicken, also, is found with relative ease. Helps kids beat their homesickness. Pizza in Mexico was a bit more of a challenge. Kids ordered sausage pizza from Dominos in MX, and the “sausage” was a cut up hot dog. Testically speaking, a hot dog is a sausage.
