El Taco de Mexico
I was flying back home on Tuesday afternoon, so I had some time for a few more bites before heading to the airport. My first stop for a breakfast of sorts was at El Taco de Mexico, a place known for its green chile. El Taco de Mexico, which opened in 1985 originally as a trailer, was named one of the James Beard Foundation’s America’s Classics in 2020.
I had a medium bowl of green chili ($10), which came with a choice of flour or corn tortillas. I chose the flour. The green chili had a good amount of tender pork chunks. It was thinner than the one I had a few days prior at La Loma, and had lots of flavor from the stock and green chilis. It was very satisfying. The large flour tortilla that came with was warm and soft.
Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs
Next, for lunch I went to Biker Jim’s, a place recommended in this thread by @bbqboy . Biker Jim’s was known for their wild game sausages, including elk and rattlesnake. However, Biker Jim himself apparently sold the business about five months ago. And when I went the menu didn’t have any game or other unique sausages. The friendly person at the register did say that the elk and jalapeño sausage was still available off menu though, and that’s what I had. I wonder if the sale had anything to do with the lack of game sausages?
Anyway, this was a sausage that was butterflied and grilled, served in a roll with cream cheese and grilled onions. It was a pretty good sausage, a little cheesy, fatty, and with a hint of gaminess. The cream cheese and onions were reminiscent of a Seattle dog, and went well with the sausage.

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery
Finally for dessert I walked over to a nearby outpost of Snooze, a retro styled diner that started out in Denver and now has several locations around the city, as well as outposts around the country.
PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN PANCAKES ($12.25)
Signature buttermilk pancakes with caramelized pineapple chunks, vanilla cream and cinnamon butter
I just had an iced coffee and the pineapple upside down pancakes, which is one of their signature dishes. The pancakes were very nice, and tasted like a delicious hybrid of pineapple upside down cake and pancakes, with chunks of pineapple embedded.
