The phrase “knee high by the 4th of July” means that local Boston area corn isn’t available until towards the end of July or early August. High quality frozen corn is preferable for me than corn “imported” from warm parts of the US or from other hemispheres.
I’m waiting for the all-too-brief time when local asparagus shows up in the farmers markets. It’s expensive and so worth it to me for those fleeting weeks.
