I used to follow some of those old Chowhound threads too — it’s interesting how a lot of the Austin community slowly moved to other platforms over time. These days most of the local discussions seem to happen on Reddit or smaller forums, so it’s a bit more scattered than it used to be.
One thing that hasn’t changed though is how fast Austin keeps growing. With so many new residents and older homes being renovated, local services get talked about quite a lot in these communities. For example, whenever someone asks for home repair recommendations, topics like finding a reliable 24/7 emergency plumber in Austin tend to come up pretty often, especially during winter freezes or when pipes burst.
It would actually be nice if more of the old Austin crowd from Chowhound regrouped somewhere again — those discussions about food, neighborhoods, and local services were always really helpful.
