costco yay/nay/meh

2 observations. They don’t need the trays since their family size doesn’t use them. Also, my favorite flavor since pre covid ie beef is supposedly still being produced per their website but I cannot find it anywhere. Including all manner of Asian markets. I don’t like the other flavors :frowning:

Mostly yay for these non-traditional soup dumplings I picked up today - Laoban Beef Pho Soup Dumplings from the freezer section. They have a broth that is reminiscent of pho broth, but could maybe use more anise. The wrappers are on the thicker side. I ate them with some Sriracha sauce.

Yay for the broccoli walnut salad in the prepared foods case. Photo and ingredients list over on the salad of the day SOTD discussion.

Have you tried the Mila soup dumplings? Curious how you would compare the two if you’ve had them. I don’t see the LaoBan versions at my local warehouse, but we see the Mila ones.

I have tried the Mila dumplings and like them, though I think I like the Synear soup dumplings that also show up in my local freezer section a bit more. Like the Synear dumplings the Mila are more traditional XLB with a soupy pork filling. I think I like pork as a filling better than beef as its a bit richer tasting, though I do like the pho-like soup in the LaoBan dumplings.

I’ve tried the Mila (ordered direct) and I think they are pretty decent for a frozen dumpling. I agree that the pork one (or the pork and shrimp one) are better than the other flavors I’ve tried so far. I tried the Synear ones also separately (from local Asian markets) and they are ok. I don’t need the giant Costco packs though, so I’ll stick to the smaller packs at the local store.

On a different front, my local Costco actually had a giant bag of takoyaki. I was a somewhat disappointed in these. While most of the store brands don’t have a great octopus to wheat ball ratio, these seemed especially chintzy on the octopus front. If you like the bready dough itself, they may be good, but I was missing the octopus. :-1:t3:

not sure as Mohammad claims, eating seven Ajwa dates each morning protects against poison and magic for the entire day but after tasting them for the first time, I can easily beleive they are gift from the Allah.

get thee to costco if you’re a date lover.

Are they pitted?

Searched for these online -
No dice :frowning:

No

My Costco was sampling burrata and I made an impulse buy and got the tub. Gosh, it’s a lot of burrata, but it’s really good on sandwiches, salad, etc. I just noticed tonight that the container says use within 1-2 days of opening which is actually comical given how much burrata is inside, but I’m going on about 2 weeks and it’s still tasting great.

Maybe they think only restaurants or cafeterias buy that size.

Well, then, welcome to my cafeteria I guess! Lol. Sometimes it feels like I’m running one.

Yes
It goes bad very fast. Delicious

I buy it at trader joes instead, just for this reason.

Has anyone else had trouble getting the Kirkland organic ground beef (85/15, in a vacuum-sealed 3-pack) lately?

image

My local stores haven’t had it for a couple of months and my freezer is nearly out. I bought a new, non-organic type today (simply labled Kirkland ground beef, the one with the mostly blue label in the foreground of the photo below), but it’s 93/7 so I have serious doubts about its viability for burgers, even mixed half and half with their ground Wagyu. Any word on whether the organic 85/15 is gone for good?

ETA: I also noticed that Kerrygold was up to $16.99 for the 2-pound package, up from $14.49 a few weeks ago. Tariffs, I assume.

I’ll be pleaslantly suprised if prices don’t rise at least 10% on every imported item we puchase.

Yup, Kerrygold is now up to $6.50 for an 8-oz. package at my local supermarket, so the Costco pack (which I’ll be buying later this week) is still a bargain.

Costco has the Mila dumplings on sale, on line only. Three bags of 50 for $59.99 delivered. I ordered pork only, pretty popular in this house of 4. It’s a good lunch or dinner with rice or noodle side.

I was just reading through this thread for the first time, noticed all of the dumpling references, and was about to reply heavily recommending the Dumpling Daughter dumplings, when I found your post here! I think we got a different flavor: The boxes I’ve been buying have been pork and chive flavor only, and not gyoza shaped but rather more of a round shape. (Not sure what the correct name is for that.) For my taste they’re some of the best frozen dumplings I’ve ever had. The dough is a bit thicker than usual and they have a really nice savory/bready vibe. Especially good panfried. (Other members of my family find the filling a touch too bouncy, but I don’t mind that at all.)
