costco yay/nay/meh 2024-2025

Each one around here has two numbers, one is for the pharmacy. I call both, never any problems.

Safeway here is the one that often doesn’t answer the phone.

I already gave away the two I bought; need to resupply.

My Costco in maplewood mn had the fresh turkeys for 99 cents/ pound, but the choices were either 20# toms or 12# hens. My 12# bird is hanging out in the back of the fridge. I was hoping for a 14# but 20 would be way too big for us

A fair amount of organic turkeys there but there was a crowd hovering so I didn’t check how big they were

These are one of the cookies in their holiday Belgian chocolate cookies. Someone must have been telling them to make those a standalone product! My niece loves those cookies, and these ‘crepes’.

I just gave my two boxes to two who are returning to India so I haven’t tried them yet. BUT I’m convinced they’re the same as the hard to get ones from TJ.

Normally I prefer good homemade cookies but this one and French butter cookies are beyond excellent.

Today I’m making the Pistachio-Cardamom shortbread (my addition of ground pistachios) Nosrat recipe and Tutu’s sugar cookies with candied ginger for them to bring back to India.

Too bad they won’t be here for Thanksgiving, they’ve never experienced it.

There’s a good YouTube video up -produced by Allrecipes - taste testing every Costco prepared meal. Very straightforward and I thought pretty useful. Clicky

17:40 long, if anyone cares.

It’s chaptered so you can view only the items you’re interested in if you are in an overwhelming time crunch.

Which I did. And the problem, as always, is that Costco sells only large quantities, and most of these are not things you can freeze some of, so for one or two people, they’re a no-go.

thanks, I thought I’d posted this a while ago, but I guess not. I too found it useful and I appreciated her no nonsense honest approach.

best,

I’d read that Kirkland AA batteries were just as good so bought a pack.

They started being no good. Duracells I had were still good.

I took back what remained and they gave me a refund!

Interesting and unusual. “Started” being no good means what? Supposedly there Duracells with different packaging.

Yes, it was interesting to me back in July when I posted further up thread here, and commented on the ones I tried.

When I would grab new ones to use for spent ones, they wouldn’t work. When I tried some older Duracells I had, everything worked fine.

Sorry if I’m not being clear enough. Anyway, I won’t be buying Kirkland batteries in the future, good ‘ole Duracells for me.

You’re perfectly clear now. That’s kind of bizarre though, to have ‘new’ batteries not work from the get-go. not lasting as long would be one thing, but not at all is very strange.

Oops, believe it or not I thought I’d searched throughly to make sure someone hadn’t already commented. My bad.

I visit a Costco forum (yes, this is my life in middle age  ) and I’ve seen similar comments. There used to be raves about the batteries, but now I’m seeing more reports of them draining quickly or worse, they are leaking after short time. I’m guessing the cost-cutting and similar supply chain concerns with a lot of products and retailers has hit some of these beloved Kirkland generics. But at least they do have great service in terms of honoring refunds.

Wow, that’s interesting. Too bad because I know they want you to have faith in their Kirkland products.

This morning I looked for those truffle bites and didn’t see any. Since some other kind of truffles accidentally fell into my cart, I didn’t bother asking about them.
