Coming to Boston/Brookline area for a week with family

Is it really that bad? I fairly frequently visit the Malden location and I’m more or less a fan. (There are not a lot of other choices in the nearby towns, however, so perhaps I’m biased. Any Korean food is way better than no Korean food.)

Yes, CC Clubhouse should have good steak tips. Above average food in general for that type of place.

One tip I got while volunteering at NEAQ (so I’m biased a bit about all the NEAQ “slander” lol, but yeah it’s small and lack some of the heavy hitters people want to see) about whale watching is to take the 2nd ship out of the day, so the 1st one had already tracked down where the whales are.

Last time we walked to Yume Ga Arukara (seaport) afterwards. Really great udon that is worth trying in both cold and hot form. But the lines were really long back in last September.

My experience with Newbridge is that it’s nothing like it was when the line was out the door with people waiting for a table. I know people who remain loyal. I would not make the trip out to Chelsea/Everett line. Harvard Gardens https://www.harvardgardens.com/menus/ 316 Cambridge Street , Boston has been a solid place for a long time.

Well we saw a few whales and a seal that was hanging out with us. I got slightly toasted despite sunscreen. When we got back to land around 2pm, my wife and child went back to the hotel and I went over to the north end to check out the signs, architecture and people watch (or listen). I stopped at Alimentari Bricco to grab a sandwich. The to the cute and darkened Vitorria and picked up a sfogiatelle and then down to Modern for a cannoli, Napoleon and a bomba.
Met family and b headed to bowl. Saw a lovely park atop summit avenue on the way there. We got in about three games for the hour. Somehow each of us won one game. It was a cool place and my son was very interested in watching the ball return and pinsetting machines.
Took a ride back to our area for a light dinner at Rami’s and that’s about the gist of today. I’m not sure how I’ve not gotten any seafood really. Maybe it’s price or maybe it’s not taking myself out to some place.
Tomorrow brings the cool down yay.

Off to Hahvahd area. Lunch ?

Wife and child changed mind to the zoo

If you do find yourself in Harvard Square along with a picky eater, some of the more conventional menu choices at Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage might work, and there are milkshakes.

The weekday lunch deals at Sea Hag in Harvard Square are a real bargain at $11 and $14, and the food is good quality.

Taberno de Haro is a Spanish restaurant in Brookline that recently got a favorable review in the Boston Globe after an ownership change. I really enjoyed it several times, not recently. Possibly harder to find something there that would appeal to your son.

Well we had some bagel sandwiches from Kupels which means no lunch. Currently at Harvard and happened upon the release of a quarter honoring Vera Rubin. Unsure we will stick around the area for dinner. Seems like Oleana is quite a walk if we want to chance patio dining. Season to taste only has out doors.

Harvest has a lovey terrace. Bar Enza in the Charles Hotel for excellent Italian. Henrietta’s Table across the lobby has solid New England fare.

Source is also very good (and very close!) with a cool view out onto the burial grounds. They often have walk-ins available pre-7pm.

Well my family has decided to go back to Brookline where as best as I can tell there isn’t really a nice restaurant like an Oleana. Maybe I’ll just take myself out for my own anniversary

Did you see other people‘s recommendations such as The Abbey? I Like Washington Square Tavern but it’s not fancy but somewhat elevated. If you or your wife are wine drinkers, they always had a very good wine list.

Barcelona Wine Bar has excellent tapas, on Beacon Street. Sycamore over in Newton Centre.

I did. Maybe I’m just disappointed or pissy that we have been here the whole week and I feel like we haven’t done anything good as far as food goes. Like no seafood outside of the clams. No good trad italian. I don’t know.

It’s never too late! Barcelona and Washington Square Tavern are a short walk from each other. Check them out in person and pull the lever.

So I guess the question is are steak tips here different than sirloin tips or steak medallions that you can get at I don’t know a steak restaurant like a ponderosa or heck I don’t know what’s a lower end family steakhouse chain?

I’d still be doing dinner by myself. Barcelona wine bar we have in NC

Indeed…when they first showed up here a review in the Boston Globe referred to them as an “outpost of that well-known bastion of Spanish cuisine, West Hartford Connecticut”. But the food is good. The flank steak might hit the comfort zone of someone looking for steak tips.
