More fun foods in Edison yesterday.
LaoWu Shanghai Dumpling
Probably my favorite dumpling shop, it’s one of the only places left that has that shitty Chinese restaurant vibe, all the new places are so nice and clean now.
Their Shen Jian Bao is the best I’ve ever had, the crisp on the bottom is SO nice. The beef roll was pretty good but I’ve had better, not as flaky and layery as some of the best.
Nai Brother
This is one of the hot new places, similar to B2J which was discussed here B2J Fish Soup, Edison NJ.
We asked for the green fish soup extra spicy, it was perfect for me and IMO not “extra” at all. Just right. I enjoyed the flavor of the soup here more than at B2J, the “sauerkraut” flavor is much stronger here. The good thing about this place is that the standard size is small so you can mix and match different things. The downside - while relatively affordable at 18 bucks for the snakehead fish, there really wasn’t that much fish in the soup.
We also got a fatty beef spicy dry pot. It was good, pretty standard mala dry pot experience.
After this we wanted to go to one of the lamb skewer places, but they were all closed. So we went to…
Dun Huang
I’ve been here before, they’re a north western Chinese restaurant named after the region. Got some lamb skewers, cold beef shank, and a cold noodle. Everything was fine, but no “wow” dishes here. I was really surprised by the noodle, which was kind of… bland. Definitely needed an extra blast of MSG.
