A new online radio station made its debut this afternoon in Oakland, and it’s unlike any that have come before it. Radio B’alam is the first station dedicated to serving Oakland’s Mam-speaking Guatemalan immigrant community.

Has anyone tried The Mana’eesh Lady at the Forage Kitchen (from the above article)?

Nice write up about Oakland Chinatown and how community member and the next generation is stepping up.

Does anyone know how this, I am assuming, ghost kitchen work? I see they have locations all over the Bay Area including a location next to the Grocery Outlet in Palo Alto. They signed up some restaurants, and specifically do they cook the pies elsewhere and deliver here, or do they cook, or maybe finish, the pies at each individual location?

from SF Chronicle:

Shengjianbao — a cousin to the more popular, water balloon-like xiaolongbao — are difficult to get right. Filled with meat and broth, then steamed and fried, the dumplings offer plenty of ways for the process to go wrong. But thanks to Lily Wong’s auteurist hands, the version offered at Hayes Valley’s Dumpling Home are filled with plenty of well-seasoned soup and sculpted with an curvaceous, vase-like structure. Their golden brown bottoms are a pleasure to crunch into, though warn your tablemates in advance so they don’t get squirted in the face with hot broth: Eating these is a whole experience. Previously, the dumplings were only available for in-person dining, but the dish is now available for takeout.

Dumpling Home. $12.95. 298 Gough St., San Francisco. 415-503-1666 or on the website.

I think they make pizza and soup at their plant up here in the Rogue Valley too. Perhaps more pizzas go along with folks staying home these days.

…significant increase in demand
