Speaking of dark lagers I had one recently, a Midnight Silk from Cellarmaker.
It tastes a lot like Death & Taxes

An actual Vienna lager from Austria, Seisenegger. Found it at a Grocery Outlet in Dublin, CA. It was a little sour, which was unexpected. (And no, it wasn’t skunked.)
Today, some day drinking. A yearly Pliny the Younger
And a Cellarmaker / Monkish collab - Kick Routines
Juicy and hazy, I like it.
And a Mega Monk from Monkish, triple NEIPA - dank juicy and rich
Triple Mt. Nelson by Cellarmaker Brewing Company (Oakland, CA) - Triple IPA
Nelson hops have always an interesting flavor profile which really shines in this IPA with white wine/grapes mixed with guava, peach and a punch of citrus before a lot of dankness with piney flavors come through and finish in a dry, medium bitter finish. Great IPA
Hyrda / Zombie by Mortalis Brewing Company (Avon, NY) - Smoothie Sour
Really good substitute for mango lassi for some Indian dishes - good berry flavors with significant tartness from the sour (and black currants). Marshmallow and vanilla smooth out the edges on this sour to give a really nice balance
Dundalk Calling. Not London. Baltimore Brewed. Double IPA. Hop-along Hoppy Hoppy. My friend likes it; I try to be a good hostess.
What I really wanted to try was the tab gizmo. I was hoping it would keep carbonation in, besides keeping winged critters out. It snaps down over the rim of the can after being inserted under the tab. Not fully snapped in the photo.
My quest for a fizz keeper for cans continues. I do not believe a functioning one exists.
Peach Cobbler by Parliament Brewing (Rohnert Park, CA) - Smoothie Sour
Another Indian dish was requiring another mango lassi substitute and this peach cobbler fruited sour delivered on point with tons of peach flavor combined with plenty of tartness from the sour.
Some beers from this weekend - a Triple Cone from Alvarado, 3xIPA, very nice.
A Small Batch Peach from Russian River
Wild ale with peach - peachy with just the right amount of tartness.
A Foggier Window from Monkish out of Torrance, CA, a hazy IIPA. Dank, grapefruit, refreshing, a bit boozy.
Another beer from Monkish - Small Earth, a low ABV (2.9%) table beer that tasted a bit like a saison. Very good especially for a low ABV beer.
One more Pliny the Younger on the last day of Toronado Beer Week.
And a Lysergic Dreams hazy IPA from Tenma out of Oakland, CA. Pretty good, lots of grapefruit citrus and a bit dry.
Sunshine City by Green Bench Brewing Company (St. Petersburg, FL) - IPA
IPA with surprisingly strong malt backbone which gives it a bready background flavor before citrus (lemon, grapefruit) hops aroma showing up and grassy, slightly floral notes help to balance it out. Very dry, medium-strong bitter finish - Classical IPA
We went to the Oakland Monk’s Kettle yesterday for their “United Sours of America” SF Beer Week event. I had Allagash’s Once Upon an Orchard: Cherries, Plums, and Raspberries–not terribly sour, with the cherries predominating. My wife had 3 Fonteinen’s Oude Lambik (the only non-American featured beer) that smelled vile and tasted just as bad, though she, who adores sours, was quite happy.
Hazy Life by Revision Brewing Company (Sparks, NV) - Hazy DIPA
Very smooth hazy DIPA with a good balance of mango, peach and citrus flavors upfront and some lingering grassy tastes later in the sip. Relatively low bitterness in the finish rounds out this IPA
Hellflower by Fieldwork Brewing Company (Berkeley, CA) - IPA
Quite piney and grassy forward with some tropical (mango, peach, lemon) notes upfront. Dry, medium bitter finish. Crisp IPA but at the same time with a soft mouthfeel. Good WCIPA
Death Mettle by Trillium Brewing Company (Canton, MA) - Hazy Triple IPA
Outstanding hazy TIPA with tons of cantaloupe, grapefruit and orange flavors upfront which take a nice turn with grassy, sometimes floral notes and a malty backbone. Well dialed in balance of tropical sweetness with grassiness and lingering bitterness in the finish but at the same time very soft mouthfeel.
Strange & Eternal by The Veil Brewing Company (Richmond, VA) - NEIPA
Very smooth tasting IPA with lots of citrus notes ranging from orange, lime to grapefruit with hints of peach in the background. Second half of the sip shows some malt notes and piney flavors before dry, low bitterness finish.
Turbinator 2: Judgement Haze by Moksa Brewing Company (Rocklin, CA) - Hazy DIPA
A lot of orange, passionfruit and honeydew melon makes this hazy DIPA a strong fruit bomb but before it gets overwhelmed by sweetness a good balance of vegetal, earthy dankness comes in with a dry, very long lasting, medium bitter finish which has some unusual strawberry flavors. Interesting flavor profile which really grows over time
Blammo! by Cellarmaking Brewing Company (Oakland, CA) - Imperial Stout
Nice mixture of roasted malts, toffee, milk chocolate and toasted coconut. The coconut has the right balance of very recognizable without being overpowering. Also well balanced between slight sweetness, warmth from the alcohol and slight bitterness in the finish. Great sipping stout
Roost by Hop Butcher for the World (Chicago, IL) - Extra Pale Ale
Not unlike a mild IPA with noticeable citrus hops and very floral flavors in the second half of the sip. More recognizable malt backbone with bready taste. Dry, yet less bitter finish than a typical IPA.
For those who don’t mind the can art looking like a turd!
Did John Kricfalusi design that can? Looks very Ren & Stimpy-ish.
It looks a bit but I doubt it (there was nothing noted on the can) as he might be too expensive (and there was too much controversy around him a few years ago)
