I am trying to see from your pictures if you are drinking these beers in Germany ?
I am. The second picture will tell you where in Germany I am.
Henhouse Stoked! Mosaic, from local brewery Henhouse Brewing in Santa Rosa, CA. Found conveniently at Safeway. Single hop (Mosaic, natch) pale ale with an ABV on the lower end at 5.4%. Light, dry, refreshing, citrusy.
Nice!
Haven’t been back since the 90’s.
Also give Berlin classics or typical meals a go. I’m a big fan and supporter of traditional establishments that serve “Hausmannskost”/home-style dishes and have local beers on taps. Two examples are calf’s liver with onions and apples, meatballs with anchovies and cream. I had my first Döner Kebab in Berlin.
Zum Wohl! (“to your well-being”, listen carefully and you’ll hear the server says this when bringing you the beer. But that’s probably because when in Germany we order everything in German. Though they might say “cheers” to non German speaking tourists.)
Having a great time, the weather is great. Having a day out in Potsdam, enjoying a beer in the sunshine. It 's a very nice, hoppy pils.
Haven’t tried it yet but comments on Beeradvocate and Untappd look very promising. Seems to be quite maple forward - did you like it ?
Old Rasputin by North Coast Brewing Company (Fort Bragg, CA) - Imperial Stout
Pours dark and thick and has a strong roasted (even slightly smoky) malt flavors upfront followed by dark chocolate, coffee, molasses and toffee with some bitterness but also hints of slight sweetness. Very good showcase of an imperial stout and it’s obvious why this beer is so well known.
smooth…creamy, rich stout, love it!
Aged Old Rasputin is even better!
Do you age it yourself or are shops offering different “vintages” ?
Continental Riot House by SingleCut Beersmiths (Astoria, NY) - Fruited IPA
nteresting combination of some passionfruit upfront (but more muted than expected), then some hoppiness before the terpenes give it a piney but also astringent character. The idea was good but the astringency puts it quite out of balance. A stronger passionfruit boost upfront might have been better for balance.
North Coast offers its own barrel-aged versions. Here’s one example; there are others available online, in stores, or in their main shop in Fort Bragg: Barrel-Aged Old Rasputin XXI - North Coast Brewing Co.
Stickmen Plumage, plum sour with bergamot, Oswego, Oregon
Tart and crisp definite plum flavor, maybe a tad too sour and I like sour
Disco Soleil - Kumquat IPA - Dieu du Ciel! - Montreal, Canada. 6.5%
Appearance: hazy, bright orange
Smell & taste: very little kumquat comes through but yes kumquat flavour is there. I think it’s better like this, though. Any more kumquat-y it would probably be medicinal tasting. Sharp, chalky dryness, medium bitterness.
I went to Dieu du Ciel brew pub a couple of times and drank so many beers on tap there. Chatted with the brewer at the beer fest in Lyon, France. But I’m not sure about this kumquat IPA. It’s not their best. Doesn’t stop me from buying Dieu du Ciel beer whenever I see it.
Unfiltered Pleasure - Hazy Pale Ale - Gorilla Craft Beer, Berlin. (Brewed by BrewDog Berlin). 6.5%
Hazy, pale looking beer.
Creamy, low carbonation, low bitterness, dry finish, medium bodied. Yeasty, pineapple and green/young coconut. Nice fruity smell. A refreshing pale ale.
An Argentinian and German brother-in-law started this brewery. BrewDog Berlin does the brewing for them.
Pineapple Farm - Hazy IPA - Coronado Brewing Co. - California. 6.8%
Appearance: golden honey, big head. Barely “hazy”.
Smell & Taste: of pineapple and hops. Thin bodied, very dry, low bitter. Subtle pineapple, some grapefruit. Low lactose mouthfeel.
Notice it says on the can “with pineapple and pineapple flavour”. I was hoping it would be strong pineapple-y juicy but it’s not so much.
Elysian Brewing’s Salt & Seed watermelon gose. Slight hint of watermelon and salt; the most forward flavors were lime and a general sourness. 4.2% ABV.
Xtra Juicy by Alpha Acid Brewing Company (Belmont, CA) - Double IPA
Despite the name it had some juiciness (mango, papaya) but less than expected and was more piney, resinous as the main flavor with a dry, medium bitter finish. Good DIPA but not outstanding.
El Dorado Bravado by Barebottle Brewing Company (San Francisco, CA) - IPA
Nice, strong burst of juicy honeydew melon upfront which is well balanced with some hoppy, piney flavors and a long, refreshingly bitter finish. Really nice hazy IPA and very refreshing.
