I was glad to see the Globe making endorsements even though I disagreed with several of them, including 5, and had already voted by mail.
I will never forget going with my parents to vote in 1960 when I was 5 in North Carolina. My mom explained she was voting for Kennedy, my dad was voting for Nixon, and it was really important for every voter to vote their choice and their beliefs.
Our son went with his dad and me to vote every time before he was 18 (after his adoption at age 7). Now that he can vote, we’ve been getting the mail-in ballots and discussing all the issues, including #5 this year. It’s really important for civics education to include the younger ones, to the extent that they are interested. Our son still tells people how glad he was to go with us to vote for Obama the first time.
The cost of living, incomes taxes (EU avg. statutory rates of around 45%), etc. are so different that any comparison would be inapt.
Not saying one system is better or worse than the other, just that they are different.

Oh, I think you’ll find I can. So many points of cultural difference which is why I’ve often said that the USA is the most “foreign” country I’ve visited in spite of sharing a language.
went back and forth, but simply could not decided, so i left it blank.

I can only imagine that my response to your post about newspaper endorsements was deemed inappropriate as being “political”. Have to say, if true, I find the interpretation odd, as it was no more “politcal” than yours. One of those times when the mods are not always right but they are always the mods. Forums are never democracies.
I was going to flag my own post for moderation and then frankly, I got too busy with work that I forgot. I definitely wrote my post out of anger/frustration and I know better.
(I wonder if your and @honkman’s posts were flagged by another Onion—I think I’ve seen that happen recently on the “What’s on Your Mind” board. Pity I didn’t get to read your posts before they were taken down.)
