August trip to New York City

I third this, but the area immediately around Bryant Park is not the easiest place to find worthwhile food. @Saregama’s Koreatown suggestion is a good one. Mexicue, while not at all earth-shattering, is reliably good and easy to customize the size of a meal. Mala Project on 46th between 5th and 6th too far?

Wow, somehow I thought someone here recommended The Smith! My head is swimming!

I think someone did, for the burger specifically - which, to be fair, I haven’t had. I’ve been to the Lincoln Center location several times, though, because it is an easy place to meet before the opera, it’s not expensive, and even though no one LOVES it, no one hates it either. The food is perfectly fine and completely forgettable. Maybe the burger is an exception!

I’m going to check it out, but I’m thinking we are going to be preferring breakfast/brunch food. Breakfast/brunch food doesn’t need to be that demanding, right?

So we are back to L 'Adress for 5, and we’ll call to see if they will accommodate 6.

I promise no more blow by blows.

Lol, true!

Not sure what to expect regarding weekday brunches in NYC.

Worse than The Smith. Maybe Pera?

Seconded. It’s also about 50% more expensive than it should be. But it is a “something for everything” kind of place, and it’s also way better than Bryant Park Grill, so I guess you could do worse?

Mala Project is fine.

Pera! At least at some point. Something Mediterranean and Middle Eastern might be nice. Son and DIL will be joining us from Turkey.

It’s been ages since I’ve been, but perhaps take a look at akdeniz too? I enjoyed it

I’d venture that they may be interested in something different than what they eat everyday.

That is alot to do in 4 days …

I would suggest a “vote” with a group of 6 …

Have a lovely time. I had read there is a hurricane over there and alot of flooding. I hope that you are not caught up in that after storm clean up. There is an article in THE GUARDIAN on subject storm.

I would not recommend this mediocre Mexican chain to a group from California. No, don’t go there.

It’s fine in Manhattan. But humid!

Weekday brunch at noon = Lunch
Check the menu if you want eggy options - general “American” places are more likely to have those later in the day; most other restaurants will just have a lunch menu on weekdays.

I organized meals for 4 days in Manhattan in 2011, with 7 relatives, aged 22 to 76, who flew in from Colorado, California and Canada for a graduation.

I had to keep the budget moderate, work with my aunt and one cousin’s plain tastes, my uncle’s interest in spicy food. We stayed in midtown, so most meals were near the museums or other sites we were visiting.

Out of the places we went, Toloache and Benoit were probably the best foodwise (if you need a moderate meal in midtown- Toloache is near Broadway, and Benoit is fairly close to MoMA. For a splurge lunch with 3 cousins, I enjoyed Bar Room at The Modern, and I returned for a solo brunch a couple years ago.

Keep in mind my recs are out of date, haven’t been to NYC since the before times.

Also agree with the poster above, prob no point doing Mexican food in Manhattan if you’re coming from California.

@shrinkrap did anyone mention Keen’s for dinner, for an old school NY experience?

Tru dat.

I can’t be sure at this point but it is on the list.

Thank you! Adding Toloache, Benoit and Bar Room at the Modern to my TripAdvisor “plan”.
“The before times”! Is that a thing/meme? I like it!
Yeah, no, we are not doing Mexican.
