Depends on the size. The large ones make your cutlery slip and submerge fully into the food. Annoying AF, which is why I ordered one size down, and rarely use the larger ones anymore.

We were at a MIchelin starred place a few weeks back. All of the crockery was hand made by a local potter. Nothing was identical… And everything was lovely. Mrs H kept mentioning to the server how nice everything was. Come the end of the meal, the server says to her that one of the bowls was slightly chipped and would have to be thrown away - but would she like to take it home. It was actually the bowl that I’d eaten my dessert from. So, we’re now the proud owners of a slightly chipped but very attractive bowl. But it’s not quite so attractive to become a stand-alone ornament but the chip means we don’t really want to use it for eating. I see it with a small plate in the middle spreading over the large rim - but that suggestion hasnt yet met with approval

Yes, I was poking around on Walmart’s website and saw these. They are in stock at my local Walmart, so I think I’ll measure my tines, then measure these “blates” and see if they’ll fit. We only need two – just Sunshine and I (day to day). When we have company, I serve on the good plates/settings.

I like Made In’s bolates / plowls recently. They’re made in England and solid and versatile. The blue rims of my blue rimmed ones are fading a bit though, maybe due to the dishwasher.

Yes, I agree entirely that a restaurant salad should be properly dressed and not require cutting.

Our son’s favorite pizza place is at a bowling alley, in Somerville, MA, Flatbread pizza.

He’s not in to bowling. The pepperoni pizza he loves and especially the brownie dessert with local ice cream and Taza (local chocolate) fudge sauce.

The one salad is good for me, especially with a local blue cheese. Next time I will ask for a larger plate and see what happens.

That’s just bad writing. She may as well have written, “Plates are for He Men. Bowls are for sissies.” It shows the same amount of critical thinking: None.

There is a parallel to the shapes we use to cook. From perfectly flat planchas to shallow disks, to woks, to vertical-walled pans to deep and even inwardly canted vessels. Nevermind the convex direction…

In the city of Stoke-on-Trent, about 35 miles south of me. Stoke has a long tradition of crockery making - the whole area around it is known as The Potteries.

Does anyone serve multiple “courses” in a bowl? Obviously I use them for single items: soup and salad and pasta and stew and the like. But a burger, fries and cole slaw?

I like those. I’m going to order the 32 oz size.

I’m down with bowls as the new plates. Many of the things I made are soupy in nature and are served with rice or the like. A small plate sized flatish bowl works great for that. If there is a side salad or veg, it can either go into the bowl or on a side plate/bowl. I do use the plates for larger flat things and meats that require a knife, e.g. quesadillas and steak.

I have 4 plain one; no painted rims. I like them a lot.

Well, I wouldn’t, but I’ve certainly eaten at places where all three items come to the table in one of those plastic baskets. Usually, the cole slaw is placed in a small cup in the basket to divide it from the other items.

I think the set of bowls I ordered recently is 32 oz. It’s a good size for most meals. I have larger bowls for other meals, like ramen.
